fug or fab? a porch swing in my bedroom

more random than random, i know.  but i saw this picture from the owners of something’s hiding in here, courtesy of a sneak peek into their home over at design*sponge on monday, and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.  there’s something so fun and unexpected about a porch swing in the middle of a room.  i have some huge bay windows i’m trying desperately to make more functional, and right now, a porch swing facing them is sounding really good.  ooh, or maybe a hammock!

what do you all think about using outdoor furniture indoors?  am i onto something, or slowly losing my mind?

I like it- it’s very creative. But I think you would definitely have to plan your decor with the swing in mind. Trying to add it to an established aesthetic wouldn’t work. The bay windows idea is a good one.

I’d say yes to the swing, no to the hammock. I think there is something sufficiently structured about a swing that would make it an unexpected addition to the room. However, having known a few people with hammocks in their rooms, I just think the hammock looks weird. Maybe it’s that a porch swing is more solid and seems a piece of furniture, while a hammock seems like a make-shift item for a college kid who doesn’t have money for a mattress.

Hmm. Now I am picturing myself in a hammock in the tropics, pina colada in hand…

I vote for FAB! People can get way too stuffy about their home, have fun with it! Then again my single girl house was nicknamed the doll house for the over the top girliness 🙂

Yes on the swing and no on the hammock.
Is there enough room to install a pole????

Ooh! I know for me now, as an adult woman, I would have to say not in my bedroom, but if I was still a teenage girl, I would ADORE that in my room! It’s fun, funky and different.

I say YAY for the swing! Why not? I think it’s awesome… Not so sure on other outdoor furniture, but the swing is very fun.

That’s great! That is a really cool design idea. I think it works well because it blends in well with the style of the bed and having a swing in your bedroom is a pretty fresh idea! Well done.

I think the porch swing would be great in a bedroom – or a sun room. I don’t know if a hammock would work indoors as it uses a lot of space but a hammock swing or hammock chair would be great.
