yay or nay? haircalf mocs by elizabeth and james

i hope everyone had a lovely weekend!  i took yesterday off to nurse a migraine that still won’t quit, but couldn’t resist at least popping in for a moment to share a find.  so, forgive me if i ramble…i’ll just blame it on the meds.

as you might have heard, elizabeth and james (aka, the olsen twins) recently expanded their design empire by teaming up with steve madden to develop a line of shoes.  as usual, while i love many of their clothes, their accessory lines leave me wanting – i’m just not cool enough, perhaps.

that said, i do find myself going back to these pony hair loafers over and over again.  it’s a random choice in so many ways…a little too preppy, a little too basic, perhaps.  but when you add that multi-tone pony hair, and the ultra-relaxed styling, it just seems to take the loafer to a new level of cool.  these are practically screaming out for boyfriend jeans and a loose tee, but i’d also love them with baggy shorts (if you’re a shorts person).  i think the trick with these is to keep the outfit ultra-casual, so that the shoes are more of an ironic twist on preppy than actually being preppy…if that makes any sense.

the only hang-up i have is the price.  now, i’ll confess…it wouldn’t be the first time i’d spent $300 on shoes (nor, likely, would it be the last).  but spending $300 on shoes by steve madden just seems a little wrong.  then again, perhaps if the olsens had a hand in the design, they also had a hand in making these lovelies worthy of their high pricetag.

give the full line a quick look over at shopbop, and then tell me…what do you all think:  yay or nay?

I am LOVING elizabeth and James lately–their take on the gladiator sandal is my fave shoe of the summer! I love the darker version of these–so sweet with cut off shorts and a silky racerback tank!

I say yay … and I’m a moc-hater! Those are just funky-unusual enough to counteract all of the prep, if you ask me.
