a long winter’s nap…and a little request

wow, i certainly gave myself a nice long vacation, didn’t i?  good reasons, i promise.  the holidays, of course.  and then a trip to mexico, to escape the rain and gloom.  whereupon, mother nature promptly rained and gloomed all over my mexican holiday (well, at least as gloomy as cancun gets).

{the view from my hotel balcony.  life is hard, i know.}

see?  but still…sand, surf, all-inclusive room service.  hard to complain too much, really.

during all of that holiday-ing, i’ve been thinking quite a bit about this blog.  it’s hard to believe i’ve been writing it for three and a half years.  frightening, actually.  and lately, i’ve been wondering if it’s really still the blog i set out to write.

so, in the spirit of the new year, i’m going to try changing a few things.  i’m going to loosen up a little – posting perhaps less reliably but with better finds.  i’m also going to broaden my horizons a little when it comes to content, which may end up involving any or all of the following:  more snarky rants, less polish, more books, travel and/or food, and the occasional delve into my personal life (such as it is).  the goal is to just generally ease up a bit on my usually tight-as-a-drum blogging filter.  we’ll see how it goes.

in the midst of all of this, i’d like to very sweetly ask for your help.  i didn’t want to get all formal and serious with a poll (mostly because i hate blog polls), but could you consider taking 30 seconds to leave a comment right now, letting me know if there’s anything you especially love, hate, or miss about the blog?  want more designer interviews?  more reader questions (my personal favorites)?  more beauty coverage?  not another moisturizer review, ever?  more books?  do you prefer high fashion or low fashion?  if you’d rather, of course, feel free to send advice/input via email – editor {at} shoppingsmycardio {dot} com, day or night.

beyond today’s request, i’d love to have you keep on giving me input on what’s working for you and what’s not.  tell me when you love something.  tell me when you hate it.  if i post a photo of my dog, and you’d rather never see him again, tell me.  (though that would be weird…he’s freaking adorable.)  the point is that i’d rather know what interests you and what doesn’t.  just leave a comment, or even email me – i heart getting emails from you guys so very, very much!

i hope you’re all off to a fabulous start this new year, and can’t wait to kick things off with a bang!

Hooray! Looking forward to reading your blog in 2010. I love posts about how to wear current treads (ummm… are other well endowed women having issues with these fluffy statement necklaces right now?), posts about specific sales online or otherwise (I keep an eye on Gilt almost every day and would like to know what to get really excited about on there and/or elsewhere), and posts about specific pieces and/or products to consider trying (I have the “magical” serum now thanks to that post). These are things that really help me anyway so they’re what I like to see.

That should have read “current trends” in the first sentence. Whoops.

Bonus comment: Reader questions are good too! Here’s one: so my bright curry yellow handbag is beat from a year of over use (and doubling as a camera bag)… my violet bag is almost all I carry right now. What neutral should I consider adding to the mix? And what are some brands and price points to consider jumping in on? I think you’ve covered handbag basics in the past, but I could use a refresher.

I love, love, love the reader questions. I know it was super helpful for me when you answered my question.

I honestly like seeing the less forced posts. As in something that caught your eye and you had to share, over a designer interview. But that’s just my personal preference. I’m looking forward to the new changes… and for goodness sake, please post a few photos of your pups!

Another vote for reader questions. I think you have a great eye for accessories and jewelry, so I’d love to see more of that. And whatevery personal details you want to give up, well that’s fine too. A lot of times, I will just scroll thru a blog and look at the pics if I don’t really “connect” with its author.

Anyway, been waiting for your return, so welcome back! I look forward to the tweaking you do here 🙂

I absolutely love pretty much everything you post on this blog. I am partial to your jewelry posts, which I find fantastic, but that’s mostly because I am a jewelry fiend myself. I agree with the commenter above me – you have a great eye for accessories and jewelry, so more of that would be great. Otherwise, I love this blog, and look forward to any changes you’re going to make!

So glad you are back! I’ve always loved your jewelry posts and would love to hear more about your book picks (mostly because I know you have great taste there.) If I had one other request, I’ll admit that the economy means I’ve cut back on purchases so I’d like to see some posts on how to look fabulous for less.

Hmmm. I love your posts that make me feel like I’m reading a personal shopper’s insight… (She says, noticing that “personal shopping” is one of your categories!

Keep it up-I’d follow you to any topic. If I had one thing I could see less of it’s the skin care products. But I probably don’t treat my skin well enough, so feel free to ignore that. Maybe some day I’ll come around 😉

    I always have an opinion… 😉

I’d like to see more “low” fashion. More vintage/unique peices. Less jewelry and skin care products (unless they’re fab to the max).

I like the reader questions/answers. So, maybe a bit more of that! I like the sale notifications, but I also like to see what the latest trends are. So, maybe more trend info. Hot colors for the season, etc. Stuff like that.

Less high end bags (no matter how you slice it, I can’t afford them and I generally don’t like the design of them. I’m weird.)

I love your blog though. So, keep it rolling! 🙂

I celebrate you entire bloggin’ catalog…looking forward to keeping in touch in 2010 🙂
