royal fever

Friends, I am embarrassingly excited about the Royal Wedding.  Are you?  It seems there are two camps:  the people who are excited, and the people who are mocking the people who are excited.  For my sake, I hope you’re in that first camp…or at least will keep your mockery to a minimum.

Since we’re coming up on the big day, I thought I’d show off a few commemorative souvenirs that I think are especially nice.  Fortunately, we’ve moved beyond the Diana/Charles era of thoroughly tacky options…some of these are so lovely, I can actually imagine showing them off!

As you might expect, with so many options available, the choices fall into one of several categories:

The chic:

{Typographic royal wedding coordinates art print by Bear Graphics, $100}

The sweet:

{Royals silhouette commemmorative plate from The House That Lars Built, $42.75; or the coordinating mug}

And, okay, a few more from The House That Lars Built, because they really have some lovely options:

Processional map, $65

Modern commemorative dessert plates, $22.75 each

Moving on to the Wonderfully Tacky category:

{Springfield Commemorative Teacup & Saucer, $13.23}

And then, of course, there’s the official version, which is actually quite pretty. Major kudos to Wills+Kate for keeping these tasteful – I’m guessing that was all Kate’s doing.

{Official Royal Wedding Commemorative Tankard, 35 GBP}

(Incidentally, in case you’re curious, the couple reportedly went with CW instead of WC on all of the official goods because, well, WC stands for “water closet” in Europe, which is decidedly un-classy. As someone whose initials are BS, I can sympathize.)

While you have no idea how much I’d love to have that last one (it’s the “official” souvenir china, after all!), the image of my husband’s face when I tell him I spent $70 (plus UK shipping) on a mug is enough to keep my credit card safely in my wallet.

So, friends – are you anxiously setting your TiVos for Friday morning (or, better yet, thinking of staying up)?  Or are you just utterly tired of hearing about the whole thing?

    I will turn on the tv for 2 minutes to see her dress and that’s it. Then I’m not going to turn any news channel or pick up a paper for a month so I don’t have to hear about it anymore!
