a little inspiration, and your very own printable!

Not long ago, I was doing my best to catch up on my RSS feed (all 900+ articles, thank you), and something Garance Doré had to say stopped me in my tracks. She was talking about her plans for the new year – resolutions and such – and somewhere in the midst of a ramble I couldn’t totally make sense of, she repeated something a professor of hers had once told her:

The important thing is to keep going.

It’s not a big idea, or a particularly groundbreaking one, but for some reason, that little phrase just zinged itself right into my subconscious. I think, really, it fits with where we all are at some point in a day, in a project, in a plan…wherever you are. It’s so easy to get stuck or scared or mired down in the details and by the work that lies ahead. And when you do, and you think you can’t climb out:

L’important, c’est de continuer.

(Doesn’t it sound even wiser in French?)

In other words, take a step. It doesn’t matter how small, or in what direction. Just take a step. Get up, dust off, and move. Don’t worry about where you’re headed, or how you’ll ever make it up that mountain. Just keep going. It’s the only way to get there, and you never know what you might find along the way.

When I mentioned this little phrase to my genius friend Megan at hi, friend design, and told her I’d love to make a printable poster for you all, her eyes lit up (well, I’m imagining that part. But she did email me back using multiple exclamation points, which is basically the same thing, right?). And in no time flat, she had this amazingness for you:

Gorgeous, right? Leave it to hi, friend to turn my little idea into something completely wonderful.

Print them, frame them, hang them in your bathroom or pin them to your cubicle wall. Choose the French version, the English version, or go for both:

Très chic, no?

However you do it, I hope you’ll find a way to add these pretty printables to your life. I think it’s a good reminder most days…and every now and then, it might be exactly what you needed to hear.
