I’m (over)due for a new pair of Converse, and I’m generally pretty loyal in these matters, but am finding some pretty chic Supergas turning my head of late. And so, I think the only thing to do is stage an elaborate Superga vs Converse debate. Head on down the rabbit hole with me, won’t you?

What say you, friends…do you have a favorite?
Converse is such a classic, and my lazy side does enjoy the fact that you can find them with elastic laces. And though I’m inclined to go classic in these matters (though avoiding white laces at all costs), there’s some appeal to being able to buy a pair in navy blue suede, of which I’m a very big fan.
But then, you can get Supergas in all sorts of impossibly chic incarnations (even cashmere, if you’re looking for a quick way to burn $300). I’m quite partial to this tweed version, which is so very up my alley.
I can’t decide which I prefer, and I’m dying to know which are more comfortable. Any advice or experience to offer, friends?

i prefer converse! xo jillian
I feel like I should probably try on some Supergas just to confirm my bias, but I’m pretty sure I’m Converse all the way (and I love the contrast of white laces ;)).
Definitely converse. The boyfriend has been trying to convert me to sperry-topsiders (he’s such a prep) but I can’t abandon my white high top converse, I’ve been wearing some version of them since I was ten!
I just bought a pair of Supergas to kill a gift card and they are super comfortable –something I would never say about my converse. I got them and black and am happy with how they look but they prob don’t beat converse’s classic style.
Converse!!!
Now see, I was all set to go with the majority, but Erin’s point about comfort is definitely key. Hmm. This may require on-site research.
I recentl got the black cashmere Supergas on sale at Saks for I think $130 or so! I don’t usually wear tennies but I thought these would be a stylish/classier way to do so! I also have a pair of converse that I wear at the lake in the summer and would say that the Supergas definitely have better cushioning and support. I have the blue velvet and the gold tweed in my zappos cart right now!
I have two pairs of Supergas (navy and white) and I love them, except for that the white around the outside of the shoe turns yellowish.
On a side note – size down 1/2 a size if you go with the Superga.
Kristina & Jaime: I’m starting to think I have no choice but to order one of each…
I have a pair of Supergas that are in pretty great shape for 4 years of wear. I also machine wash them. The red canvas has faded just a little, but yes, the “bumper” has yellowed quite a bit. Comfort? For canvas sneakers they have a really stable sole but I wouldn’t call them the most comfortable. I keep them b/c they are structurally strong still and cute!
I haven’t had Converse all stars for years but loved those, too!
Marty: Now that’s an endorsement! I know what you mean, though…neither are going to be as comfortable as actual tennis shoes. This is definitely going to require some further testing, I think 🙂
Well, you’re saying that converse is such a classic but also superga, converse was founded in 1908 and superga in 1911, sooo…
I’d been wearing converse for years. Love the fit. However, they break down really fast, especially the rubber at the sides of the shoes…
Gonna try Superga. They look better built.
