cheap thrills: thredup’s got a brand new bag

{Editor’s Note: The following is sponsored by my friends at thredUP, but opinions and picks are all mine. As always, thanks for supporting these wonderful businesses that keep the lights on at SMC!}

If there’s anything I love more than a new bag, it’s a bargain. So when I heard that thredUP was adding handbags to their fantastic online consignment offerings, I may have gotten a little giddy. Right on trend, nearly-new bags, 100% authentic (I checked – they’ve hired experts to make sure), marked down as low as 1/4 of their original retail price? Where do I sign?

A few of the (too) many styles I’m coveting this morning: thredup handbags

thredup handbags, consignment handbags, authentic used handbags, consignment purses

Left to Right: Alexander Wang white Rocco: $500.25 (retail $925) | Marc by Marc Jacobs grey satchel: $152 (retail $528) | MICHAEL Michael Kors woven raffia: $107.99 (retail $298) | J.Crew leopard Edie: $65.99 (retail $228) | Louis Quatorze bucket bag: $153.49 (retail $530) | Z Spoke by Zac Posen black structured shoulder bag: $207.99 (retail $495)

No more combing through pages and pages of fakes on eBay looking for the one that got away, and no more wishing higher-end consignment shops would stock pieces we mere mortals can actually afford. I mean, that J.Crew leopard Edie? I definitely remember some pangs of retail regret when I didn’t buy that at full price before it sold out. Now? It’s $65, friends. Ditto for that Z Spoke by Zac Posen number, which I seriously considered pre-ordering at Moda Operandi last year. I’m awfully glad I waited – this one still has its tags, and is $207 instead of the $495 I was ready to pay.

The truth is, I kind of love consignment shopping. Vintage? Not so much – it’s too “needle in a haystack” for my patience level. But give me a room (or a website) filled with last season’s Alexander Wang and Tory Burch, and my bargain-sniffing prowess really shines through. And maybe the only thing better than going to my local consignment shop is going to thredUP – trust me, the deals are much, much better. Plus, it’s the law of averages – they have such a huge selection, you’re all but guaranteed to score something you love.

Check out all of the goodies, but especially those bags, which just launched this morning (translation: move fast!). Oh, and if you’re in the mood to purge some of those jeans you’re sick of looking at, their system for taking in new consignment pieces is awfully slick. I put together a stack to send them over the weekend, and my closet is happier already.

    I just ordered from thredup and they sent me a fake coach. I sent them pictures of it and they just said sorry and mail it back. They obviously can’t see a fake from an authentic. I would not trust this site.

    Faye: That is horrible! I’m so glad they got it resolved quickly and painlessly for you, though…I’m pretty impressed to hear that, actually. Hope you found what you were looking for somewhere else!
