on my radar: cuyana

Lately, I’ve been really feeling the weight of having “too much” in my life. (Yes, I realize this is one of those “first world” problems. Bear with me.) Despite the fact that my closet is bursting at the seams, I never like my options when I get dressed in the morning these days, and despite the fact that my bank account demands a respite, I can’t pry my eyes from the daily deluge of sample sales and Shopbop markdowns, of always looking for something new to add to my already-overflowing closet, of never being quite perfectly happy with what I already have.

Don’t worry, I’m not going all cold-turkey bonkers on you. But I do think there’s some value in maybe culling the noise a bit. Some value in not worrying so much about the “next big thing”, and just buying what feels exactly right, what you genuinely love and can’t wait to wear, not just own. And so, I’ve started making a real effort, friends, to look for…well, if not “perfection”, then at least simplicity, timelessness and either elegance or utility in what I buy.  Read on

big news: shopping’s my cardio t-shirts are here!

Shopping's My Cardio tee, shopping is my cardio t shirt, mindy kaling t shirt, wildfox, shopping is my cardio, shopping t shirt, fashion t shirt, shopaholic t shirt

The best darn Shopping’s My Cardio tee around

{Update: You know I love a free shipping code, so here’s yours, good through 7.24: XMASINJULY}

I think it’s destiny. First, a whole bevy of you lovely people started tweeting, Facebook-ing (is this really a verb?) and emailing to tell me about those “Shopping Is My Cardio” tees that have been floating around this season. Then, Mindy Kaling wore one! On TV! And finally, if that weren’t enough, last week we got news that yes, Virginia, shopping actually is cardio for most women. (To the tune of 15,000 calories a year, thank you very much. In case you needed more incentive to indulge.)

If all of that delightful hullabaloo taught me one thing, it’s this: whoever’s making those shirts is doing it wrong! Seriously, that font? Those colors? We can do better, friends. We must do better. And we shall.

Shopping's My Cardio tee, shopping is my cardio t shirt, mindy kaling t shirt, wildfox, shopping is my cardio, shopping t shirt, fashion t shirt, shopaholic t shirt

Yep, it’s here: SMC merchandise-palooza! (By which I mean a couple of t-shirts and a mug. I mean, let’s not get crazy.)

To say I’ve obsessively researched this to make these as good as I possibly could would be, well, a ridiculous understatement. In the hours upon hours I’ve spent scouring the interwebs for the best printing company who makes tees chic enough for YOU, dear readers, I could have probably orchestrated world peace or finally learned how to make a pie filling that doesn’t run all over the place. But hey, this is important stuff. If I’m going to suggest you buy a tee, it needs to be fantastic, right? You’d expect no less.

My personal favorite is the dark grey tee – something about that contrast stitching and the slightly scooped neck just makes it awfully cute in person. But that Flashdance-ish sweatshirt is also pretty rad, as is the black tote. Oh heck, they’re all great. Read my product descriptions for fit help (naturally, I had to try these out before I could even dream of suggesting them to you).

What do you think, friends? I really hope you’ll love them, and add one to your closet ASAP, so that I can geek out like a teenager at a Justin Bieber concert if I ever see you walking down the street wearing one. (You know I totally will.)

finds for a holiday weekend

Well, I had plans to be productive this week, but honestly, how much attention are any of us paying when there’s a glorious four-day weekend on the horizon? But, I do have a few fun things to share before I start working on next week’s post about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale head to the pool… Read on

off the rack: the spring styles that actually made it into my closet

As I think you know by now, I’m a big believer in finding ways to make trends work for me, instead of having to change my wardrobe and comfort level to suit the trend. The truth is that I’m at that point in my life where I know what I’ll wear, what flatters me, and what belongs in my closet. And I worked hard to get here! Sure, I find a piece or two to push the envelope just a bit every season, but overall, running blindly after every trend that struts by just isn’t my thing.

To wit, I thought you’d like to take a peek at what I’ve actually been buying so far for spring. Ready for a little stroll through my closet? Read on

friday finds

Happy Friday, friends! I’m feeling kind of thoughtfully, intentionally slow this spring morning, so I hope you’ll forgive a little brain wandering in today’s FF.

First things first: let’s talk deals. I happen to know that Kate SpadeVince and Cole Haan are all having their Friends & Family promos this weekend, and they’re doozies. I have all the details up on my Facebook and Twitter feeds…so much easier to keep you updated on all the best steals in real time. Read on

worthy splurge: oscar de la renta at the outnet

Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet, $995

In the event I’m ever invited to a glamorous, black-tie affair – one at which I can wear the most delicious, glowy, gossamer confection of a gown I can find – there’s only one man I’ll trust: Oscar de la Renta. Watch any of his shows, and you’ll catch the magic. Or better yet, take a look at the faces of any of his celebs on the red carpet. They’re positively glowing, triumphant in the knowledge that if nothing else, they’ve nailed the gown.

Alas, most of Oscar’s gowns are hilariously, impossibly beyond both my budget and my lifestyle. But lo! As is much too often the case, The Outnet has come to my rescue, concocting an exclusive collaboration with the man himself. It’s a bit more youthful, and a lot more cost-approachable than his standard ultra-luxe fare. The result is a mini-collection of pieces so wearable, so beautiful, and so perfectly Oscar, it’s hard to imagine they top out at $995. Still a splurge, I’ll grant you. But it’s one that’s actually possible (mortgage one of the kids, sell a bit of plasma, and you’re there). Read on

spring fling: emerson fry

I can count on one hand the number of brands whose seasonal launches I genuinely wait for. The ones I hound the designer about, to see what the launch date will be, and log on first thing that morning to see what’s in store.

Yes, I can count them on one hand, and Emerson Fry is one of them. Every single season, they come up with pieces that I wouldn’t have considered, that push my boundaries just a smidge, yet that will fit into my closet so seamlessly, I can’t possibly say no. Read on
