a currently coveting compendium
Lately, it seems my Pinterest boards runneth over with goodies I (at least momentarily) can’t live without. Quite possibly, all of this way-too-early holiday business has seeped into my subconscious and I’m formulating lists for Santa against my will. Whatever the reason, in no particular order, and with zero rhyme and reason, I thought I’d share a few things I can’t get over this week. Read on
worthy splurge: inhabit fall 2014
The two worthiest splurges in my fall wardrobe, both from Inhabit: 1 | 2
Buy less, splurge more. I’m trying hard to make this my new mantra…not because I’ve recently come into a pot of gold or anything, but because I really think there’s value in reminding myself that if I can resist buying every “bargain” pair of jeans that crosses my path (which then sits unworn in the hilariously-overgrown stacks of denim in my closet) and instead buy the one pair I’ve been ogling all along, I’d probably end up saving money. best cashmere sweater
I’m finding this little allegory particularly true when it comes to my sweaters. Every bargain bin sweater I’ve nabbed over the years just languishes at the bottom of my drawer in a big old pile of retail regret. They pill, they snag, they lose their shape…I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that cheap sweaters just make me sad. Read on
yay or nay: the chic fanny pack
| Petit Fannypack, Clare Vivier |
Historically, I’ve always been pretty opposed to the fanny pack, even an admittedly chic-ish version such as this. The name, for one thing – it’s just awful, isn’t it? Also, I feel like once Carrie Bradshaw has done it, the rest of us just shouldn’t. And then there’s the simple fact that drawing more eyes toward my belly isn’t high on my list of sartorial goals. chic fanny pack
But having just adopted a second dog, I can tell you that the idea of something that doesn’t threaten to careen off my shoulder and into a waiting pile of…well, you know…every time I lean over to clean up someone’s mess is looking more appealing every day.
My question to you is this: Would you? I mean, not to the opera, but for weekend coffee jaunts, etc?
cheap thrills: my favorite under-$100 fall finds (so far)
a sartorial pickle (also, welcome back!)
Friends, I’m back! I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer, whatever you’ve been up to. My break wasn’t quite as meditative and relaxing as I might have hoped, but the work I got done made me feel more productive and happy than I’ve been in ages. One sweet client is in the process of opening a brand new store, another revamped her entire online presence, and I got to roll up my sleeves and help them make those dreams a reality. Not a bad way to spend the summer, if you ask me.
I also took a little trip to Portland, which I’ll be telling you all about before long. I’ve missed the Rose City so very much, and spending a few days traipsing around old haunts was just what the doctor ordered.
Despite the fact that 80-degree temperatures just won’t quit in CA, I’m also intent on rebuilding my wardrobe for fall. But I’m in one of those phases when every single thing in my closet just bores me to tears. Do you ever have those seasons? Read on
a french girl summer, part two (and an announcement)
All via the Pinterest/Google Images rabbit hole…
Well friends, you asked and I’m (finally) delivering the summer edition of my foolproof guide for how to dress like a French girl (if you missed the original version, it’s right here)! This story’s really best told via images, so I have a slew more for you on Pinterest (along with my shopping picks to make the look come to life). But in short, here’s the secret formula: Read on
the only three jeans you need this summer
Friends, I don’t know about you, but for my money, dark denim and hot summer nights just don’t seem to mix. Also, I’m getting increasingly weary (and wary) of my skinny jeans (which may or may not have something to do with a seasonal diet that consists largely of ice cream). best summer denim
Whatever the reason, when the weather turns warm, I want denim in lighter washes and looser fits – just the thing for those weekends at the beach, long scenic bike rides…oh, who am I kidding? Afternoons reading magazines on my deck. Read on
