this just in: exclusive alexander wang at shopbop

for those of you who have been living under a rock this summer, it’s becoming clear that alexander wang is the designer to watch these days.  his fall line is already selling out, and even his $76 tees have become impossible to track down.

so, it’s no real surprise to me that his newly-released rocco duffel bag is expected to be the “it bag” of the fall season – it’s already sold out at most stores.  the coco duffel boasts classic duffel styling, but gets a bit of badass biker edge by being coated with metal studs all along the base of the bag.

lately i’ve been shying away from the “it bag”mentality, in favor of things a bit more off the beaten path.  and, if i’m being honest, i’m not as excited about this bag as i’ve tried to be…duffel shapes have never been my thing.  but i am developing a bit of a crush on the brand-spanking-new version that just appeared at shopbop.  while the standard black i’ve seen everywhere was feeling a little bland, i love the light denim shade of this version, and the almost suede-like distressing on the leather.  but mostly, i love that it can be an “it bag” that not everyone else has.

grab your favorite, but do it fast…these are going to be gone in a flash!

sneak peek: alexander wang for the gap

picture-5

(all photos via racked)

those investigative geniuses over at racked have gotten hold of photos of the new alexander wang collection for the gap, due to hit stores on june 16.

much ado has been made about the motorcycle jacket…but i’m not as excited as i wanted to be.  i do, however, love the dresses…and the hats, though i never, ever look good in hats.

these pants, on the other hand, are scaring the bejeezus out of me.

my only fear with this collection is that it’ll be a repeat of the CFDA white shirt debacle, in which one could not leave the house without seeing at least 3 people wearing one of the “designer” white shirts.  i wore mine exactly once before retiring it…it was just too depressing to feel like such a clone.

what do you think?  will you be running to your neighborhood gap with a fistful of cash on 6.16, or are you just not feeling it?

what the fug? new alexander wang at ron herman

i’m not quite sure what to say about what’s happening here.  normally, i love just about everything at ron herman.  and, normally, even if i don’t love everything at alexander wang, i can at least see the style and genius in it.  but clearly, something has gone very, very wrong in both houses, and well, i’m a little bit afraid.

that jacket up there?  the blue isn’t denim, though i thought so at first.  it’s suede – but honestly, i’m not sure whether that’s better or worse than denim would have been.  with leather arms.  so, the net effect is some weird denim/leather jacket hybrid thing.  it reminds me of someone’s redesigned vintage store buy, gone very, very badly.

and really, are we doing bras as tops now?  is this some bad seinfeld reference gone awry?  i mean, i will say that the product description calls it “perfect for layering under loose-cut or sheer tops,” so perhaps they’re not fully embracing the bra-as-top concept.  but i’m still pretty scared of the whole thing.

this last one isn’t quite as bad, but it does look an awful lot like another of those redesigned vintage attempts.  i’m pretty sure i owned this blazer in 1987, and donated it to goodwill…where it was apparently adopted by alexander wang, who cut off the arms, and is now calling it a vest.  i’m skeptical.

fortunately, it’s not all fug and fear at ron herman this week.  they do have this lovely new leather ruffle blazer from burning torch.  i think it’s crazy cute, actually, and would adopt it in a heartbeat, if someone needs me to give it a loving home on their behalf.  and these fun plaid scarves from american colors are just the thing to prep up your closet this spring.  see that?  who says i can’t see the glass half full?

are you feeling the fug this week too, or is it just me?

luxe or less: kirna zabete style genius

every so often, an email hits my inbox and i just exclaim “yes, exactly!” when i open it.  such was this email i received yesterday from kirna zabete.  kz is every new yorker’s secret source for the latest and greatest in fashion lovelies, this fantastic store is finally offering its designer wares online.

i think each and every one of their picks is a flawless, investment-worthy choice…and, if you can swing it, you absolutely should.  if nothing else, you should at least spend some time playing on their site…there are so, so many lovelies to ogle.

but i love this look so much that i’m going to give you some budget-friendly ways to get the look…so that you can look as hot as this picture without walking the streets begging for spare change to finance your fashion.

i love this version of the tie-neck blouse from banana republic (in the lovely purple, not that blah tan color), and it’s just $69.  equally lovely is this version from marc by marc jacobs, marked down to $78 at nordstrom.  but best of all is this stunner from roberto rodriguez, which i may even prefer to the original, on sale for $200.

and if those loooovely lanvins just don’t fit the budget, i’d swap for this version from bloch london for $163 – gorgeous (and a perfect match for the banana republic top above!)!  for an even better steal, i have to admit that i would never have thought to check here, but plus-size site silhouettes has a quite lovely satin cap-toe flat (in sizes 7-12) for a cool $40.  i’d go for the wine color, i think…perfect for this time of year!

the clutch is vastly more complicated, as i adore their choice and hate to mess with it.  so…how about if i find the exact same alexander wang clutch for you at 50% off?  yep…$325 at shopbop.  don’t say i never did anything for you!
