shopbop friends & family

Not that I expect a lot of sympathy, friends, but this jetlag…sheesh. I remember being able to shake off an international flight like no one’s business when I was in my 20s. But now? Well, I’m blogging at 4 am, if that tells you anything.

While my poor, disheveled internal clock repairs itself, I had to at least be sure you knew that today is the last day of the Shopbop Friends & Family sale. Use code INTHEFAMILY14 to take 25% off sitewide – and really, what says “family” more than that?

Since I have Parisian fashion on the brain this week, I thought I’d point out a few Shopbop finds from some of my very favorite French brands. After all, if you can’t go to Paris, at least you can shop like you did. Read on

a day in florence with lynne hiriak of cardigan

{Editor’s Note: While I’m off strolling down cobblestone streets, mainlining croissants and gelato, I’ve asked a few of my most stylish globetrotting friends to share what they’d be doing – and of course, what they’d be wearing – on a dream day abroad.} Florence shopping

When it comes to casual European chic, I can’t think of anyone who could do it better than Lynne Hiriak. A globetrotter extraordinaire, Lynne racks up more frequent flier miles in a year than I’ve accumulated in a lifetime. She’s also the creator of CARDIGAN New York, quite possibly my very favorite place for all things striped and cozy. As it turns out, she’s also an expert when it comes to shopping (and eating) her way through Florence, and her dream day is packed with hidden shops and locals-only restaurants I can’t wait to add to my to-do list. Lead on, Lynne!

friday finds: the pre-birthday edition!

I have to start by telling you all that next week is going to be seriously amazing here at ShoppingsMyCardio. You see, it’s my fifth anniversary in the blogosphere. Can you imagine?  I can’t begin to tell you what a fantastic time it’s been, and how much I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you all. Truly, truly, I get up and do this every morning because I know you’re out there reading, a fact that brings me even more joy than my new Vince leather moto.

Since I’m finding myself ill-equipped to express myself with words, I’m giving you presents instead!  Yes, we’re doing a major, knock-down, flat-out amazing giveaway all of next week, so whatever you do, don’t forget to show up Monday to get in on the action!

In fact…okay, I can’t resist (I am the world’s worst secret-keeper). Here’s a little tease – can you guess any of the delicious prizes up for grabs?

And with that, on to Friday Finds!

I can never seem to get enough of the new goods at Chilewich. There’s just something about their use of texture and tone to make neutral pieces sing. The latest addition to their little family is this Electric Stripe utility mat, which comes in a few different stripey combos (though the blue is my favorite). It’s precisely the blend of utilitarian and inviting I’d want at my front door. Bonus: prices start at $45, and I spotted these most recently at my friendly neighborhood Ace Hardware, so they’re actually easy to acquire.

A.P.C., a French label known for clean, creative styles has just launched their Resort/Fall 2011 lookbook, and it’s a doozy. This “Resort/Fall” season is a relatively new phenom, but I’ll take all the new goodies I can get. Particularly that sleeveless shirtdress.

I just polished off Dreams of Joy, the latest Lisa See novel. It released this week, and if you’re a fan of hers, it’s a title you won’t want to miss. The first half starts a little slow, but the second half is utterly worth the wait. This continuation of Shanghai Girls (I don’t think you need to have read that title to enjoy this one) takes you deep into the world of communist China under Mao’s leadership. It’s full of that well-researched Chinese history See is known for, and the whole thing is so engrossing, even my husband couldn’t believe how rabidly I was devouring this one.

And, last but not least, I’m having another of my DIY moments – this time, I’m hellbent on recreating this gorgeous Isabal Marant necklace, as I adore it, but it’s too spendy for me even at half price. I seem to remember seeing these wavy, zig-zag-ish beads everywhere when I was just a wee shopper, but have no idea what they’re called or where I’d find them now. Any ideas?

Have a wonderful weekend, friends – I’ll be here, working away on the fabulous week ahead. But I hope you take plenty of time to enjoy the sun this weekend!

friday finds

thank goodness, friends…i am so, so ready for it to be friday.  i have a couple of projects i’m hoping to crank out today, so that i can really settle in and laze this weekend.  i’m even hoping (foolishly, perhaps) for a bit of spring-worthy weather.  hey, a girl can dream!

and now, on to the week’s most random finds:

i’m in the mood for a bright spring pedicure…there’s something about a really bright polish that makes me pine for open-toed shoes.  the colors i’m most anxious to break out this season are from opi’s new texas collection – it’s exactly the bright, bold shot of color i’m jonesing for this time of year.  check out too hot pink to hold ’em, guy meets gal-veston and houston, we have a purple…all are just begging for a little pedi-cameo. i’m even thinking of trying san-tan-tonio for my fingers…bold move for ms. bubble bath, i know.

i have a longstanding obsession with quilts…my grandmother was an amazing quilter, and it’s made me a bit cat-lady-crazy when it comes to coveting new ones to pile up on my bed.  i wish i would just get my act together and learn how to sew.  until then, though, an email landed in my inbox, letting me know that a.p.c., that lovely french brand, has released a few quilts, and it’s swoon central over here. they’re made from fabrics used in previous collections, so they’re going to be uber soft and silky, too.  if only i had a spare $500 or so…

i have no idea if this pure & good hand cream is, in fact, good or not, but i’m in love with that sweet retro packaging.  and anything with “ginger mandarin” scent can’t be that bad, can it?  from anthropologie, of course.

more bracelets? yep, i just can’t resist.  giles & brother’s spring collection is popping up on my radar almost daily this month, and i’m just in love.  they always manage to hit that perfect note of hip edge that a preppy girl like me can actually handle.

that’s it for me, friends…i hope you have a wonderful two days ahead of you!  here’s to sunglasses and sandals…

currently coveting: fall at creatures of comfort

look at all of this lovely fall cardigan-y goodness over at creatures of comfort!  i blame jenn at a merry mishap, for sending me over there in the first place.

is it possible to obsess about camel any more than i am? probably not.

clockwise from top left:  pam verse cardi in tan, $240; apc leopard cardi, $195; a detacher claudeta cardi, $435; apc chic cardi in beige, $238.

and some non-cardigan goodness that i also can’t help but adore…especially those shoes, even if i’d be a tiny bit scared to wear them with a heel that staggeringly high.

clockwise from top left: rachel comey foxglove heels, $368; dream collective braille necklace, $335 (also a pretty fabulous ring for a mere $35!); apc trench coat, camel, $445; rick owens scrunch top, $315.

i’ve literally had to stop myself from making this post three pages long.  sigh…  give yourself a little thursday treat, and take a stroll through their new arrivals.  i am definitely, definitely a fall fashion kind of girl.
