Before we dive in, let me just say how excited I am to welcome Erin back to the SMC family for a little holiday cameo. She’s done an amazing job of helping me pull these gorgeous guides together, and I’m profoundly grateful…and impressed. Truly, they might be our best yet. When I got back from Paris and gave you all my secret formula for how to dress like a French girlso many of you asked if I could update it for warmer temps. And I totally get it – it is infinitely harder to look chic when it’s hot out. Layering isn’t an option, hemlines and humidity rise, and you end up spending the entire summer in a threadbare tee and a cotton skirt with an elastic waist. Which is not without its charms, but…sometimes, we still want to pull it together. So, over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some looks that are perfect Paris summer style solutions. Read on

think(ing) pink

I’ve been thinking pink in a big way this season…it’s always a favorite color of mine, and though pink for spring is a little predictable, all that talk about winter pastels put me over the edge. But not just any pink will do – no cotton candy or fuchsia here. I’m after a more subtle shade – a pale, whisper of a pink that you’d find on the inside of a seashell, the one that’s like a nude but infinitely warmer and universally flattering. A little something like this:

what i’m wearing: shades of grey

Until fall’s in full swing, I’m doing my best to straddle the seasons by adding a few doses of grey to my usual warm-weather wardrobe. Dark charcoal feels like a bit much while the sun’s still beating down on me, but paler shades are the perfect transitional hue. Plus, they play as well with pastels as they do with black, so they’re worthy investments that will see you through the coming months in plenty of style.

currently coveting: everlane leather

everlane leather, via shopping's my cardio

I’ve been an admirer of Everlane for the longest time, but it’s been one of those long-distance celeb crushes. You know, I check out their website obsessively, ogle all of the new goodies, and fantasize about which pieces would look best in my closet (hint: all of them). They’re hard to resist – it’s that perfect storm of a small selection, beautifully-designed styles, and unbelievably reasonable prices (thanks to their insistence on keeping an eagle eye on production, which I also happen to love).

So when they emailed to tell me about their new leather collection? My heart skipped a beat, and it’s not just because my crush actually called me! These new leather goods are good, my friends – they’re well-constructed, intelligently designed and built for years of use.  Read on

friday finds: summer projects

Happy Friday, friends! Well, it’s happened: we’ve come to that time in the summer when the days are long, and my ambition is high. I have so many summer projects brewing in my tired little brain, it will be a real miracle if I can settle down long enough to make one or two of them happen. Specifically? I’m so glad you asked.
