random fall finds

since we’re a bit behind, i thought i’d do a quick mega-post of some things i’ve come across recently and thought “i have to show those to my readers when i’m back!”

it’s finally, officially fall where i live – it’s my favorite season, and i can hardly wait to break out the scarves, cashmere sweaters and boots (yes, the flat boots have finally won my heart).  i have a respectable collection of both after last year’s gluttony, but there are a few pieces i just know i’ll need sooner than later.

i fell hard for this beautiful patchwork scarf by echo designs ($78) when i saw the above photo in a catalog recently.  in fact, i adored it so much that i honestly couldn’t believe it was the same scarf when i looked it up on echo’s website – from those pics, i’d have never given this one a second glance.  to settle the score, i asked echo to send it along so i could check it out in person (a dirty job, i know).  readers, in person, this scarf is absolutely gorgeous.  perfect color palette, great patterns, and lightweight, gauzy wool i can hardly wait to bundle up in.  trust me on this! (for better pics, go here. also, a great picture of the red & yellow version here.)

Picture 1

splendid actually makes a quite good cashmere, and their prices aren’t horrible ($209 for this one).  this shadow stripe v-neck breaks all of the rules about horizontal stripes – the neutral color combo is sure to keep the look flattering.  and wouldn’t you love to see this under a blazer?

Picture 2

this season, i’ve abandoned (or, have made up my mind to abandon) my grey cardigan obsession, and am now after a camel version*.  camel can stand up to grey any day as an unexpected, classic neutral, and it goes with literally everything. this option by brochu walker ($325) doesn’t really qualify as a cardi, as it’ only a half-buttoned option.  but i adore the soft, drapey neckline and the thumbholes on the sleeves – both seriously cozy features, which is what i’m after this time of year.

(*in a perfect world, i’ve actually found my camel cardigan…now i just need to find the $500 to bring it home!)

and, yes, boots.  so far, these are the style i’m most loving for fall.  i’ve loved frye’s paige boot for years, but this season’s distressed grey version ($345) might just be too much for me to resist.  the only thing holding me back is the fact that that gorgeous front detail will never see the light of day, as i still refuse to tuck my jeans into my boots (a trend best left to ladies without hips).

so, what are you craving for fall?

spring at inhabit

for all of the extreme shoulder pads, spikes and pleats running around this spring, sometimes i’m just in the mood for casual, reliable and soft.  enter inhabit – my all-time favorite source for all things cotton and cashmere.  no one brand can make me instantly feel cool, calm and comfy more quickly than the lovely designs from inhabit.  their brand new pieces for spring are starting to sprout on their website, and i’m already coveting a very long list of items.

that pintucked cardigan/blazer hybrid above is made of the softest, coziest cashmere…and that draping is just amazing.  and the hoodie…i love that it’s a little lower cut at the neck, and more form-fitting than your favorite sweatshirt, but no less comfy and infinitely more stylish.  plus, those extra long sleeves are awesome when my hands are cold (and i must admit, i’m completely charmed by the button detailing at the cuff!).  and the whisper-thin cotton cardigan is going to be my go-to all spring – i’m simply incapable of leaving my home bare-armed, and this is the perfect solution.

the pricing is steep, i won’t lie.  but this is one of those times that i pull out my trusty “cost per wear” analysis, and realize i’ve lived in little besides my inhabit cashmere sweaters all winter.  the truth is that i can hardly wait for warmer weather so that some inhabit cotton can make its way into my wardrobe.

oh yes…did i forget to mention they have a sale section? 😉  you can also find some great deals on inhabit over at tobi right now.  definitely worth a look!

home again!

hi, readers!!  i’m back from the tropics, and missed you all terribly…i saw so many things i wanted to blog, but alas, the pina colada in my hand was weighing me down.  i had some very grand plans for my first day back…but well, i’m exhausted, and it’s just not happening.  so, i’ll leave you with a few random tidbits, and we’ll start the awesomeness tomorrow.

1. clarins UV plus sunscreen SPF 40 is a miracle potion.  my freakishly sensitive, freckle- and sunburn-prone skin has nary a blemish after a week in the hawaii sun and surf.  tomorrow, i have a fantastic Q&A with their head skincare expert to share with you…so look forward to that!

2. i’m on a huge exotic floral print kick now (big shock), and these beautiful notebooks from cartolina cards are hitting me in just the right spot.  at $4 each, they’re cuter than most of what i saw in hawaii…i’m considering buying a stack and passing them off as souvenirs!

3. it was snowing when i arrived home…welcome back.  but i refuse to be defeated – inhabit is sample sale-ing my favorite, light-as-a-feather stretch cashmere cardigan and v-neck (as well as some other pieces) for $80 each this week…that’s down from more than $300.  i’m stocking up on as many colors as i can afford.  ready, set, shop!

deal of the day: ron herman sale

i’ve been wishing and hoping that the massive sale at ron herman would improve to include some fabulous basics, and that day is here.  save 40% on personal faves like decadently warm cashmere from inhabit and demylee, hip outerwear from mike and chris, and amazing fashion finds from haute hippie.

let’s see if i can do this in the spirit of giving.  i’ll be snapping up that gorgeous striped boatneck in superthick cashmere from demylee, now down to $186…for my mom, who is forever complaining she’s cold.  ooh, or maybe that phoeve dress would be just the thing.

for my dear friend who’s vastly more trendy than me, this fleece jacket from citizens of humanity (down to $121) is a no-brainer…especially if she’ll let me borrow it.

and since i’m still desperately lacking in the stunning holiday dress department, i’ll snap up this stunning paillette sheath from haute hippie (down to $360), which will be positively perfect for this new year’s eve…and many more to come.

hey, i can’t be selfless ALL month!

just one little caution – the goodies are final sale, so be sure you love what you’re nabbing.  but really, how could you not?

and of course, don’t forget about all of the other fab deals we have this week:  25% off at gorjana, 15% off at 479 popcorn, a huge 30% off at kate mchale and 20% off at linda & harriett!  with steals this good, how is it possible your holiday shopping isn’t already done?!
