new for fall: john robshaw textiles

Good morning, friends! What a weekend for all of you on the East Coast! I hope each and every one of you is safe, comfortable and back to normal today.

In the spirit of comfort, I thought I’d show you all something that brings me endless comfort. There’s something particularly calming and light about John Robshaw’s textiles. He draws inspiration from the farthest corners of the world, and brings them home in a way that’s familiar and comforting, but still with a touch of the exotic. Of course, the fact that his fabrics are literally the lightest, finest cotton I’ve ever laid hands on doesn’t hurt. Seriously, once you own a piece, you’ll find yourself compulsively petting it for no apparent reason…it’s that good.

His new collection for fall just launched, and it’s a particular beauty. I’ve fallen for all of those lush indigos and violets, but I know there are neutral-lovers among you who are going to love all those warm, pale shades of brown. Can’t you just see yourself snuggling into that bed at night?

If you do nothing else for yourself this week, order one of those beautiful cotton robes. It’s almost an anti-robe, really…so light and soft, it all but evaporates when you put it on. There’s many a morning when the promise of drinking my morning tea in that robe is all that gets me out of bed.

friday finds: the zigzag edition (apparently)

Happy Friday, friends! As always, I hope you have fantastic weekend plans. Me, I’m going to an ice cream churn-a-ment this afternoon, and then I have a hot date to see “Bad Teacher.” So, we’re starting it off right!

Before we get going with this week’s list, can I ask you a quick favor? My little Shopping’s My Cardio Facebook page needs you…come on over and be my friend, won’t you? We can, like, throw a kegger or something.

And now, business aside…time for our usual Friday eye candy!

What do you think of clogs? I can’t quite make up my mind…but there is something about this particular style of Swedish Hasbeens that I love. The strappy-ness (yes, I just made up a word) does a lot to balance out the heft of the sole, and they look mighty comfy. The balance of that is that they’re not cheap…but I’m told these things last forever.

This print by Julien Pacaud has been open on my desktop all week. I can’t explain the love, but it’s there…it’s like some fictional land I’d very much like to visit. I should really just buy it already.

I am trying so hard to convince myself I could pull off these Rachel Comey zigzag pants. Think you could do it?

Speaking of zigzag (I’m a little more than obsessed these days), I got a little tip this morning that John Robshaw is having a 40% off sale for the next week. I’m annoyed that my quilt from them has rapidly deteriorated (I really need to email them about that), but that doesn’t stop me from wanting this delicious robe. On sale, it’s $57, and Robshaw’s cotton is definitely something I want to be swathed in for as long as possible.

And, okay, one (two) more zigzags…I can’t resist. You won’t be able to either when you see this stunning wallet and crossbody bag (originally spotted by the beautiful Joy) from Deep Dark Africa. I’m so head over heels, there are no words. While you’re there, check out the rest of the site…there are a bevy of world-traveled beauties you won’t be able to live without.

Are you feeling the zigzag love like I am this year?

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone…see you back here next week!

friday finds

happy friday, dear readers!  i hope you enjoy this week’s collection…i may not be able to stop myself from buying nearly all of this week’s finds, but fortunately, i think i’m priced out of at least one.

i got an email that my lovely le train bleu is celebrating its ninth birthday this month (by offering 30% off sitewide! code is “number9”), and couldn’t resist a stroll through their virtual racks.  it could be these amazing photos, but i’m going absolutely crazy for this bande a part coat, and have been trying to convince myself that adding just one more to my closet can’t possibly hurt.  it’s not a lie if you believe it.

loving this mod reinterpretation of a classic strand of pearls from etten eller. you could pair this with the preppiest of looks to give it just a touch of downtown edge, without letting go of your uptown roots.

i noticed this ruffle cardigan in the gap recently, and did a double-take because it seemed so out of place.  it reminds me so much of a piece by clu or 3.1 philip lim or alexandar wang, but there it was, right in the middle of the gap and selling for $79.50.  they’re calling it a cardi, but it’s really more of a jacket to my eye.  what an amazing transition piece for spring…jeans and tees now, obviously, but how sweet layered over a floral dress in the summer, as a fashion-forward alternative to the biker jacket everyone else will be wearing.  that hazy purple is still around in stores…but i’d move fast.

and last but not least, did you hear that john robshaw had designed some pieces for lucky brand jeans?  as usual, his block print fabrics are utterly dreamy to look at, and i confess that i’ve always wanted to swathe my entire body in one of his quilts.  these new styles will be considerably more chic than wearing a quilt, and unbelievably perfect for summer.  my favorite is this tunic dress – i’m dying to be a tunic girl like tory burch.  i’d never wear it solo, as i am not 17 or a runway model.  but i do love it styled with denim shorts or a slim pant.

have a great weekend, everyone…and happy valentine’s day!  i hope you have the good sense to buy yourself some chocolate and flowers in celebration…that’s what it’s all about, after all.

brighten up your boudoir

i ran into these beautiful new quilts by angela adams (of whom i’m a longtime fan) at macy’s the other day, and couldn’t resist sharing.  i always seem to fall for her mod graphics and bright palettes, and this bedding is just one more thing to love (one of these days i’ll grace my floors with one of her famous rugs).

i picked up the red “sand dollar” quilt to mix with my john robshaw bedding and my west elm sheets, and i can hardly wait to put it all together!

these pretty quilts also happen to be on sale (honestly, is anything at macy’s ever not on sale?), which is an excellent excuse for new bedding if ever there was one.
