spring splurge: shopbop friends & family!

shopbop-friends-and-family

Well friends, I had a little #lifehack story planned for you today, but then this hit my inbox…and really, could I let a Shopbop friends & family go by? Of course not. So, life hack later…spring wardrobe now!

I’ve been on a shopping binge the likes of which my closet hasn’t seen in ages – I’m in one of those life phases when my closet just seems entirely, completely wrong all of a sudden. I’m ready for a serious wardrobe reboot, and I’m starting with more than a few of these:

Now, tell me what you’re buying, won’t you? My shopping itch still isn’t quite done being scratched.

shopbop F&F is here! (expired)

shopbop friends and family, shopbop coupon, shopbop sale

Friends, I won’t lie: short of Nordstrom suddenly starting a F&F promotion (from my keyboard to God’s ears…), the Shopbop Friends & Family is truly one of my favorite promos of the year. Unlike most other stores, they really limit the number of exclusions, so you can actually score some pretty serious steals. Also, it shows up just in time to be mighty handy for the early bird holiday shoppers among us (oh, how I wish I was that organized).

Take 25% off sitewide through 10.16 with code FAMILY25. I can think of all sorts of useful applications for this – to wit, a few of my favorites:

a sartorial pickle (also, welcome back!)

Friends, I’m back! I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer, whatever you’ve been up to. My break wasn’t quite as meditative and relaxing as I might have hoped, but the work I got done made me feel more productive and happy than I’ve been in ages. One sweet client is in the process of opening a brand new store, another revamped her entire online presence, and I got to roll up my sleeves and help them make those dreams a reality. Not a bad way to spend the summer, if you ask me.

I also took a little trip to Portland, which I’ll be telling you all about before long. I’ve missed the Rose City so very much, and spending a few days traipsing around old haunts was just what the doctor ordered.

Despite the fact that 80-degree temperatures just won’t quit in CA, I’m also intent on rebuilding my wardrobe for fall. But I’m in one of those phases when every single thing in my closet just bores me to tears. Do you ever have those seasons? Read on

style files: jaci carley of inhabit

I suspect it’s no secret by now that I have a longstanding love of all things Inhabit. Some brands get my heart for a season, or even a year…but with Inhabit, it’s for life. Their fabrics defy all logic – cashmere that’s somehow both lightweight and sumptuous, cotton so soft that you’d swear it was silk – and their designs always strike that perfect balance between edgy and classic. Smart details like reverse seams and asymmetrical side vents make even a simple cashmere crewneck into a collector’s piece.

So, when their impossibly hip designer, Jaci Carley, offered to do a little styling challenge with me, featuring my favorite piece from their spring collection (three cheers for Twitter!), you can guess how quickly I said yes. inhabit cashmere

your perfect jeans

the-perfect-jeans, best denim, perfect pair of jeans, designer denim, top denim styles, most flattering jeans

When it comes to denim, I may not have as many pairs as this lady, but I’ve done all right for myself. And though I can’t seem to stop racking up new finds, I’ll always have a few die-hard, impossible-to-part-with favorites in the mix. The J.Crew Matchsticks from a zillion years ago (before they messed up the fit), now so perfectly stretched out and worn in that they’re really more boyfriend jeans than anything, but still utterly perfect. The MiH Ellsworths that are exactly the right shade of faded blue. And the Paige Hidden Hills that magically make me look 10 pounds slimmer, even on fat days.

But my all-time favorite, I’ll-cry-when-they-finally-give-up, perfect jeans are my Joe’s Socialites (a now-extinct style, I’m sad to say). They’re made of the softest, thinnest denim, and every time I put them on, my whole body just lets out a big sigh of relief. They’re that comfortable.

What about you, friends? What’s your perfect pair?

what i’m wearing: shades of grey

Until fall’s in full swing, I’m doing my best to straddle the seasons by adding a few doses of grey to my usual warm-weather wardrobe. Dark charcoal feels like a bit much while the sun’s still beating down on me, but paler shades are the perfect transitional hue. Plus, they play as well with pastels as they do with black, so they’re worthy investments that will see you through the coming months in plenty of style.

off the rack: the spring styles that actually made it into my closet

As I think you know by now, I’m a big believer in finding ways to make trends work for me, instead of having to change my wardrobe and comfort level to suit the trend. The truth is that I’m at that point in my life where I know what I’ll wear, what flatters me, and what belongs in my closet. And I worked hard to get here! Sure, I find a piece or two to push the envelope just a bit every season, but overall, running blindly after every trend that struts by just isn’t my thing.

To wit, I thought you’d like to take a peek at what I’ve actually been buying so far for spring. Ready for a little stroll through my closet? Read on

This is the post in which I try to remember every fabulous last-minute holiday gift that’s crossed my path since I finished our gift guides. Let’s see how it goes.

First of all, you should know I’ve been pinning gifts madly over on Pinterest (check out my Giftable, Dear Santa and Tinsel Time boards). So, you know, in case all of those gift guides weren’t enough, you have even more options! Plus, really, just about everyone is still shipping for the holidays, so don’t fret.
