gift guide: ali mejia’s finds for the exotic globetrotter

{This year, I’ve asked a few of the people whose style I spend all year admiring to share their holiday wish lists. Check them all out right here!} sexy gift guide travel gift guide

By now, I suspect it’s no secret that I’m a pretty big fan of Eberjey. Bordering on an evangelist, really. Their lingerie and loungewear is quite possibly the most perfect version of what it’s meant to be: sexy and comfy. In other words, pieces you could actually sleep in, but that also have a decent chance of being ripped off of you, Fifty Shades-style. As it turns out, Eberjey’s perfect formula comes from designer Ali Mejia‘s international upbringing and fanatical attention to detail. Born in El Salvador with a passion for international travel, Ali spent her teen years having her swimsuits tailored to fit. As an adult, when she couldn’t find the lingerie she was after, she decided to create it herself, and Eberjey was born. You can feel Ali’s relaxed, bohemian attitude in every single piece Eberjey designs, from beach-ready swimwear and cover-ups to pajamas and intimates that are addictively good. Just reading her list will put you in the mood for a relaxing island getaway.

the sale rack: accessories

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since starting this blog (longer ago than I care to mention) is that it may be the clothes that make the man, but it’s the accessories that make the outfit.

Think of it this way: take a classic white shirt and a pair of straight-leg jeans. Add a pearl necklace and a patent skinny belt, and you’re one person. Change it up for a big, bright statement necklace and a rock-and-roll ankle boot, and you’re entirely another. Add nothing at all, and you’re….well, unless you’re Kate Middleton, you’re blahs-ville.

Doing my usual obsessive online browsing sale shopping yesterday, I came across so many gorgeous accessories on amazing sales (DANNIJO on sale? Never!), I could hardly believe my luck. Since I can’t buy them all, I’m having a little virtual shopping spree with you…hoping some of you will reap the rewards.

Left to right, top to bottom: MAWI bracelet, $244 (from $490) / Love Moschino Frog Queen box clutch, $103 (from $209) / DANNIJO necklace, $207 (from $417) / M Missoni bag, $242 (from $486) / DANNIJO ring, $95 (from $321) / Kenneth Jay Lane necklace, $194 (from $391) / Iosselliani necklace, $110 (from $222). Not pictured, but too lovely not to share: Mysuelly bag, $265 (from $666) / Alice by Temperley scarf, $95 (from $240)

And then there’s the matter of the Epice scarves I found marked way, way down at Yoox, a phenomenon so extraordinary, it almost certainly deserves its own post. This is probably less fantasy and more reality, as I let this pretty one on the left out of my clutches a year ago, and have regretted it ever since.

It wouldn’t take more than one of these to instantly transform virtually any outfit (even the one you’re wearing today, I suspect). That kind of power is definitely an investment worth making.

vogue’s sneak peek: missoni for target

I’ve been chatting with a few of you on Facebook about the new photos in August’s Vogue of the Missoni for Target collaboration, and I’m so glad I’m not the only one who’s so excited about it! This has been one of the most secretive designer collabs for Target in ages, and after this exclusive peek, I can see why. I’m utterly in love with each and every item, from the outfit Margherita is wearing in the photos to the zigzag trays on her dining table. It’s all total Missoni nirvana, and I couldn’t resist sharing a few scans to whet your shopping appetites!

It’s all classic, vintage Missoni – and, while I haven’t seen pieces in person yet, it seems they’ve managed to take the best, most iconic images from the brand and reinterpret them without robbing them of their specialness. Even the clothing is spot-on – I’m not a miniskirt girl as a rule, but there is an exception ready to be made here. And speaking of exceptions, I haven’t ridden a bike in 15 years, but I’m going to be first in line for this one.

Obviously, you need to go buy this issue of Vogue to get a better look – but this should get us all started on our wishlists.

What do you think? Should we all have a Shopping’s My Cardio camp-out party at Target the night before the collection debuts on September 13?

what i want today: missoni scarf

i’ve been coveting a new scarf for positively ages – and the coveting was finally reinforced when even my darling hubs told me he’d seen more than enough of the ancient (but lovely) j.crew version i’d been sporting for the last 3 winters. i know it’s not really scarf weather any more, but i continue to covet nonetheless.

for me, the ultimate would be one of the many beauties by missoni, who does an amazing job of making scarves that will go with anything, and in virtually any weather.

the version above ($225) is a cotton blend, so it’s never too heavy, but at 9″ wide, it’s still thick enough to bundle you up when you need the warmth.

and i’ve been in love with this silk-trim version since i first spied it months ago. sadly, at $660, it’s probably not coming home with me…but it’s definitely in the “covet from afar” category.

either way, i’m sure to be warm and toasty all summer long. hey, that air conditioning can get bitter!

neiman marcus private sale event: today only!

this doesn’t happen all that often, so even though it’s so temptation-inducing that i actually feel a little guilty sharing with you all, i just can’t resist.

today only, neiman marcus has taken 30% off select pieces from the fall ’07 collections. the first call sale started yesterday too, but trust me…this is much, much better.

to find the goods, click here, and stay within that link, as it’s invite-only. as usual, the site workings are annoying, and you do have to fish around a little…make sure your selections say “private event” below the pic before you buy – the price will be discounted when you put the item in your basket.

the loot in my basket (that i really, really shouldn’t be buying:

that loeffler randall matilde boot i’ve been coveting all season (and best of all, this one’s a pre-order, so i might be able to pass it off as an after-christmas extravagance).

a really gorgeous m by missoni dress that will be perfect this fall – of course, i’m just ordering it to try it on……really.

any number of diane von furstenberg wrap dresses – the good styles never go on sale, so this is fantastic!
a couple of really gorgeous vince cardigans – vince uses amazing, ultra luxe cashmere, so i always love to catch their designs on sale.

and yes, even the most fabulous of fabulous: manolos at 30% off. told you it was a good day!

i’d shop quick, and buy quicker…half the things in my cart already show as unavailable on the site.

oh, and use code PRIVATE for free slow-boat shipping while you’re at it. happy wednesday!
