sweet steals: the july 4th edition

i hope you don’t mind, dear readers, but i’m a bit under the weather, so i think a long weekend is due.  however, never one to leave you without shopping options, i thought i’d give you a tempting rundown of all of those fab holiday sales happening this weekend.  i’ll do what i can to update this post as new steals and deals cross my path, so keep your eyes peeled!

NEW! tobi:  take 30% off sitewide with code FIREWORKS30 through 7/6.  does look like it excludes sale items, but tobi is a killer source for denim, so this is a great chance to stock up!

shopbop:  25% off all sale merchandise through 7/2!  use code EXTRA25 to score deals like this sweet little milly dress for an even sweeter $75…i highly recommend starting at the 70% off section and working your way down!

tory burch: EDIT: the 25% off code is gone, but it looks like they’ve done an across-the-board markdown to make up for it.  so, still worth checking out! 25% off all sale merchandise today only with code SALE25. this looks to be just about everything from tory’s spring line, and it’s the best sale i’ve seen in a while. i loved this dress when it first came out at $398, but now that it’s, oh, about $115? yes, please.  and could i have the clutch i’ve been searching for all summer too?  thanks.

alexis bittar: maybe not quite as exciting after those two bombshells, but excellent nevertheless. the king of costume jewels looks to have dropped prices on just about everything by 30-50%.  in honor of the holiday, i can’t resist falling for this little drippy ice cream cone necklace, but there are piles and piles of beauties to choose from.

kate boutique: my favorite santa barbara style outpost is offering 30% off sitewide with code summer09, and there are goodies galore. i’d start at the epice scarves (which never ever go on sale) and browse from there!

emily elizabeth jewelry:  the lovely designer herself tweeted to remind me she’s offering 35% off her entire site through 7/12 with code 35off.  i so wish i could blow off my budget and finally pick up that fern leaf bangle i’ve been eyeing for nearly a year.  ooh, or (and?) maybe the colin necklace…looks like it’s a new design, and utterly fabulous!

happy long weekend, everyone!  may your barbecue be hot and your hangover be short.

worthy splurge: brochu walker wrap cardigan

if i splurge on nothing else this summer (a very real possibility), i’m fervently hoping to add this gorgeous wrap cardi from brochu walker to my closet.  at $445, it’s a splurge, to be sure, but it’s possibly the most versatile piece i’ve seen all season.  i know this would hardly have time to catch its breath on the hanger between wears.

i can hardly wait to put together this very ensemble for a casual evening out: great pair of trouser jeans, a nice silk cami, and maybe a nude heel to keep the whole thing neutral and classic.  but this cardi’s also destined to work overtime, helping me dress up those shapeless cotton dresses i can’t seem to resist when the weather turns hot.  it’s just airy enough to work for warmer temperatures, all while fending off that air conditioning chill we suffer through this time of year.  plus, i admit, i love the color name:  sea salt.  so perfect!

the good news is that if you happen to be in splurge-spending position this week, you can score 20% off on this beauty at shopjake, with code summer20, through today only.  hey, every little bit helps!

random friday frills

it’s going to be a lazy friday, i can already tell (this could be because it’s 10:30, and i’ve only just gotten around to throwing on my yoga pants).  with the three-day weekend looming, something tells me you’re all feeling a little lazy today too…am i right?

as a countermeasure, i thought i’d put together a few of the ultra girly things i’ve been craving this week – nothing makes me sit up straight and cross my ankles faster than a few ruffles and frills.  and hey, if you can’t live it, at least you can love it from a distance.

picture-91

shopjake.com is one of my favorite fashion browsing destinations – i’m practically a groupie for their buyer.  don’t all of these frills and ruffles just make you feel warm and fuzzy?  i love the idea of wearing any of these with some distressed denim and a flat metallic sandal – just the thing for flawless summer chic, don’t you agree?

speaking of girly goodness, artist jen corace has just released a few new prints at art star.  i tweeted my favorite yesterday, but here it is again, just because i’m so, so, so in love with it.  sigh!

and last but not least, if you haven’t yet caught the anna wintour interview from 60 minutes, it’s well worth your 12 minutes.  i don’t care what the haters say, i heart vogue, and i heart anna wintour.  if you do too, i suspect you’re also going to love in vogue.  it’s a pretty fascinating look at the magazine’s history, and includes reprints of all of their best photo shoots and covers.  really stunning, and worth it for the annie leibowitz alice in wonderland shoot alone.

sigh…mission accomplished.  all of this girly-ness has me wanting to go paint my nails.  happy weekend, everyone!  i hope there is a barbecue, a beach and/or a picnic in your immediate future.

designer 101: cardigan

designed by lynne hiriak, CARDIGAN has taken the fashion scene by storm this season.  her signature, not surprisingly, is ultra-cozy knitwear, including super-thick wool sweaters, and gorgeous cardigans.

i’m determined to add at least one piece from her collection to my wardrobe this season, as i have no doubt her prices will double by this time next year.  it’s a tough call…and i could use some input from my dear readers.

there’s this gorgeous 3/4 sleeve open cardigan ($195) that i positively adore for its draping.  it also comes in a stunning royal blue and a classic black, but i think the heather grey really shows off the silhouette, which is special enough to deserve center stage.

i happened upon this striped boatneck sweater ($245) in a local boutique, and it was love at first sight.  once again, it’s the detail of the silhouette that makes this special.  i love the wide boatneck that drapes perfectly over your shoulders, making this actually quite sexy for a baggy wool sweater.  it’s perfect to throw on over jeans for a dose of effortless style on even the most frigid day.  you can also pick this up in white with royal blue stripes, or in a lovely sweater dress/tunic style.

for something a little more uptown, i almost can’t believe i’m so in love with this cardigan with the built-in scarf detail ($250).  button up and tie it in a bow, or leave it open and drape the scarf casually around your neck – either way, you’re roasty toasty warm, and right on trend this fall.

hard call, don’t you agree?  keep your eye out for more greats from this up-and-comer but, in the meantime, which of her current pieces is your fave?

what i want today: rebecca minkoff nightcap clutch

how i’ve missed this beauty in my borderline-stalking of rebecca minkoff’s line is seriously beyond me.  i can’t even find it on her fall linesheets, but there it is at shopjake.com, just staring me down.  yes, please to the lovely eggplant hue, the snakeskin-embossed detail, the ruching, and that fabulously hip hexagonal frame (6 is ‘hex’, right?  sigh…fashion, yes; math, no).

this might also be one of the more rationally-priced clutches i’ve featured lately…at $285, it’s downright reasonable.  especially when you use that trusty code over in my left sidebar for an additional 10% off.  code is thelatest, in case you’re too enamored by this beauty to tear your gaze away.  i understand.

worthy splurge: loeffler randall gemma pump

at first, i was afraid it was a crush.  but every time i look at this stunning gemma pump from loeffler randall, it becomes more clear:  this is definitely love.  love the luscious raspberry color, the open toe, the swirl detail on the vamp, the lizard embossing, and the super-practical 2″ heel.  love absolutely everything…except the $450 pricetag.  money tree, where art thou??

i do, however, think this qualifies as a worthy splurge.  unlike her handbag line (tragically, i’ve had several bad experiences there), jessie randall’s shoes are built to last – and i have a closet full of them to attest.  this color will be amazing all winter with those colored tights you’re seeing everywhere, but really, can you imagine a more perfect summer party shoe?  i simply cannot…and a shoe i can wear literally 12 months out of the year is a rare enough commodity it may be worth biting the proverbial bullet.

pick it up at shopjake, the store that is singlehandedly forcing me to think about what exactly would happen if i maxed every credit card i own.  i do believe you can use code heel08 to score 10% off…every little bit helps.

what i want today: ndc clutch

the more i use a clutch, the more i fall for the versatility it offers.  some people think they’ll get frustrated having to hold a clutch, but the reality is that i so rarely use a shoulder bag, i’m carrying something no matter what – usually a big satchel bag.  and honestly, a clutch can just be tucked under your arm, rendering your hands free for whatever you need.  plus, i love the minimalism that a clutch requires – i have to actually think about what i “need” to have with me versus what i “want” to have, and carrying just the essentials feels so liberating.

in terms of hardware, i am head over heels for this soft, semi-structured grey clutch from ndc.  the shape and color really makes this perfect for day or evening – if you’re looking for one clutch to do it all, this is the best option i’ve seen.  pick it up at shopjake.com for $410, and try using code ‘thelatest‘ to score 10% off.

ps…as long as you’re there, most of their spring sale items are marked down to 70% now, and you can use code ‘15offsale‘ to save an additional 15% off.  that really qualifies as “so close to free it’s not even worth discusisng” in my book…so get to shopping!
