what i want today: r&y augousti clutch

i am just in love with this bag. i think it’s because the designer started with a style that was so popular it’s now almost overdone (the foldover clutch), and took it to a new level with the exotic skin and that fabulous deco zipper pull (trimmed in stingray, incidentally).

or maybe i love it because, yet again, augousti has the market cornered on affordable exotics. you can score this beauty for less than $500 – which is downright amazing, if you ask me.

if you’re in the market, this clutch will make a fantastic addition to your bag stash – the styling is casual enough for jeans, but the exotic skin dresses it up for evening. pick it up at barneys, and make all of your friends jealous.

or, if you’re looking for something a little more classic, barneys just restocked that gorgeous park clutch i’ve mentioned before. it’s a much more traditional clutch option, but stunning nonetheless. and only $395…i honestly have no idea how r&y does it.

what i want today: alexis hudson clutch

gorgeous, no? this just screams parisian chic to me. it has that perfect blend of au courant trendiness meets timeless style…and that art deco clasp had me at hello. i can’t put my finger on it, but i’m more smitten by this beauty every time i see it. i think that’s the sign of a must-buy piece.

and best of all, you can score it for 53% off (aka, a paltry $185). you do have to join ideeli to do it, but the membership is free, and the goods are occasionally fantastic. the site is invite-only, so just drop a comment on this post with your email addy (or just email me at shoppingsmycardio at gmail.com if you’re shy), and i’ll send you an invite. but hurry…sale starts at 10 AM (pacific time).

what i want today: canary eelskin clutch

in support of my ongoing fasination with clutches, i had to share this gorgeous eel skin version by lorelei. the sunny yellow color is really fabulous…not as glitzy as gold, but i think that actually adds to the versatility. you can still wear it with any neutral, but the yellow makes it casual enough to wear with jeans, while the exotic skin dresses it up just enough for cocktails. this beauty would make me smile every time i pulled it out of the closet. the size (13″x5″) is perfect for use as a day clutch, and the price ($238) is tough to argue with.

but even better, the darling folks over at pink caviar have generously extended a 20% sitewide discount exclusively to shoppingsmycardio readers. just use code cardio20 at checkout, making this gorgeous clutch a steal at $190.

pick it up at pink caviar boutique, rush the shipping, and tote it to all of your holiday parties!

designer of the day: ladylike handbags by erva

so, i managed to convince the hubs to take me over to check out the new barneys that opened up in san francisco recently. and it’s every bit as fabulous as i expected – i can tell it’s going to be trouble!

while i was there, i ran across a line of bags i’d never seen before (one of my favorite things about barneys: i always run into something new). erva is a spanish brand that’s just barely beginning to show up here in the states – so far, i’ve only seen their bags at barneys and online at net-a-porter. but, what i’ve seen, i love. creative, luxe, and highly functional – and the price points are actually nowhere near as unreasonable as i was expecting.

i love this pleated clutch – it’s hard to tell from this pic, but the top folds over – so the clasp on the coin purse side is actually the top of the bag when you’re carrying it. the size makes it a really useful day clutch (i tried it out, and actually managed to fit all of my daily essentials inside), and the clasp would work beautifully as a handle in case of emergency (my one peeve with a clutch for day: sometimes, you just need the use of your arms).

i’m also coveting this slightly larger version, available at both barneys and NAP (it’s cheaper at barneys, but there are great modeling pics at NAP), which features the same great detailing as the clutch (the pleated leather, the wooden clasp), with a great chain handle that will let you work this baby as a shoulder bag too. plus, the size is probably a little better for those of us that like to pack around more than we should.

check out the offerings from erva now (also here), so you can get in ahead of the pack (and the inevitable price increases…).

designer of the day: r & y augousti

so, lately, i’ve been craving two things: clutches and exotic skins. the problem? clutches don’t hold enough. and exotic skins are way, way too expensive.

but, the girls over at TDO put me off on a bit of a tangent today by showcasing this yummy bronze snakeskin clutch by rafe, and i started poking around on the web, and i stumbled upon the new handbag collection by r&y augousti, who have been designing stunning home objects for quite a while, but have recently ventured into designing bags. while i normally wouldn’t look to a homewares designer for couture, this team has really done an amazing job. their pieces are every bit as amazing and luxurious as they should be for exotics, but are actually reasonably priced. well, you know, as exotics go.

this first one is really more of a wallet than a clutch, but it’s so fabulous that it gets to be included here. had i only known that i was going to find this wallet, i never would have bought all of the other wallets i’ve purchased in the last few months. and, now i’d have a fabulous snakeskin wallet in the yummiest butter color, lined in even yummier suede, and, at an ultra reasonable price of $195, it would have cost me less than all the other wallets i bought along the way. sigh.

for a more traditional clutch, they have a gorgeous eelskin number that’s all ruched and fabulous on the outside, suede-lined on the inside, and has a gorgeous, asymmetrical antique-brooch-looking thing as a closure. this clutch just goes way beyond fabulous, and even though i don’t use clutches as often as i’d like, this is definitely a buy that would be in my closet 50 years from now, when i’d be the coolest little old lady on the block, sporting my gorgeous vintage eelskin clutch. the size is just about perfect, at 10″ x 5″ – it will actually hold all of your evening needs. this one’s pricier than the wallet, at $385, but that’s still a helluva deal for an exotic skin with this degree of design and attention to detail. i mean, really, even a lauren merkin clutch is $200, for heaven’s sake. i want this little cutie sooo badly that i’m just hoping and praying the birthday fairy is paying attention, because this would make a completely perfect gift for me.

if you’re a little bit more of a badass than i am, you could certainly pull off the vintage punk vibe of this yummy ostrich clutch – only $285, with all of the same lovely features as the eelskin, plus a stingray accent on the clasp. or you could check out this completely gorgeous snakeskin version, in the yummiest coffee color, for $440.

truly, if you’re at all considering the value of a classic clutch, these are well worth the investment – they’re impeccably styled, have incredible attention to detail, and will be the talk of any event they get to attend. and really, you just can’t put a pricetag on the intense jealousy of your friends and colleagues.
