2014, bring it on

new-year

| Images via my friends at boohoo, who clearly know how to party! |

Wishing you the happiest, healthiest year yet, my friends! 2014 will be filled with good things, I just know it. I don’t go in for resolutions, but the idea of making a real effort to slow down, put away my iPhone and look around occasionally is feeling very right to me just now. And maybe finally learning to bake a loaf of bread.

However you celebrate, may your year be filled with light, love, and some very fancy shoes.

merry merry!

xmas card-smc

Well, friends, it’s that time of year. The time when I hide my laptop, take a deep breath, and do my best to stop thinking in 140-character quips.

From the bottom of my heart, friends: thank you for making this another wonderful year at SMC. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – the only reason I do this is because I adore each and every one of you. Knowing that you’re out there, giving a hoot what I have to say – and maybe even talking back – is the best gift ever.

I’ll be back after a little holiday sabbatical…my long winter’s nap is long overdue. And in the meantime, I’m wishing you and everyone you love the merriest, brightest and happiest holidays yet!

so, the holidays…

Red-Christmas-decorations-christmas-22228015-1920-1200

Friends, I have to admit, I’m feeling a little at loose ends! The gift guides are done, stockings are hung, and Santa has issued a directive ordering me not to buy anything else for myself until Christmas. How dull!

So, besides just doing all of your holiday shopping for you (which I would kind of love to do, by the way. Email me – personal shoppers are where it’s at this season!), let me ask you this: How can I be of help to you this holiday season?

More gift ideas? Some tips on holiday beauty or dressing for holiday parties? Or should we just ignore all those silver bells, and go back to our regularly scheduled programming?

giving thanks

thanksgiving pie, via shopping's my cardio

I’m baking up a storm this Thanksgiving!

I’m taking a little break from our gift guides today to wish you and yours a very, very happy Thanksgiving. Whether you’re cooking for 20 or ordering pizza, I hope you’ll have a moment or two to take a deep breath, look around, and enjoy the start of the holidays (before it turns into an official onslaught of insanity).

I’ll have our last expert gift guide for you over the weekend – it’s a goodie! – and in the meantime, I’ll be sharing all of the Black Friday sales (plus Small Business Saturday, plus Cyber Monday…sheesh!) I hear about on Facebook and Twitter, so be sure you’re following me there. There are a staggering number of deals in my inbox already, so hang with me there, and I’ll keep the discount codes coming!

Last but not least, friends, I just want to say – this year, I’m thankful for you. Each and every one of you. Whether you read SMC every day or just once in a while, whether you comment all the time or have never said a word, I really do consider you a friend. And I’m so very, very happy that you choose to spend a few minutes of your day with me.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

summer break

Summer vacation, summer trip, vacation photos, porch swing, farmhouse, tea and scones

My fantasy vacation, in a nutshell. {Images 1 / 2 / 3, and that first one is well worth a click}

Oh, how I wish. Though there are no charmingly rustic farmhouses and oceanfront porch swings in my immediate future, the truth is that summer’s almost over, and I’ve completely forgotten to enjoy it. (Plus, my September issues are in, and I’m going to need all of my strength to lift them over to the couch wade through them.)

I’ll be back after Labor Day, friends. In the meantime, you know I can’t resist social media, so hang with me there, won’t you?

And if you’ve forgotten to enjoy this summer too, may I suggest calling in sick one day next week and sitting in the sun somewhere? It does a body good.

xox,
B

{PS: I finally ordered myself one of those SMC sweatshirts, and I have to tell you that it is officially the comfiest thing I own. It’s unbelievably soft and cozy, and the cut is even better than I was hoping. I kind of can’t wait for fall, so I can go all J.Crew on this bad boy.}

in jewelry-related news…

Apropos of nothing, I have two lovely jewelry-related things to tell you today, friends.

First, remember that today’s the last day to nab those two beautiful Alicia Marilyn bracelets and see 20% of the proceeds go to a very deserving nonprofit that helps furry little farm animals. (Sorry, I can’t resist a little guilt…it’s a genetic imperative).

Second, you simply have to see the new collection of vintage jewels for sale over at Elva Fields. She makes the most divine vintage-inspired original pieces (in fact, they’re so good that she’s a featured designer at Anthropologie now!), so it’s no surprise she has a fantastic eye for vintage finds. This new trove is fantastic news for me, as I’ve always wanted to be a vintage jewelry collector, but have no patience for sifting through mounds of eyesores to find one gem (I’m talking to you, Etsy). Better still, everything’s incredibly affordable, so you’ll get plenty of bling for your buck.

Could someone please buy that amazing crystal panther bangle before my resolve wears down?

Since I’m clearly on a jewelry kick this week (wait, when am I not?), have you seen anything new and gorgeous I should know about? Tell me all about it…I’m itching for some new bling!
