a french girl summer, part two (and an announcement)

All via the Pinterest/Google Images rabbit hole

Well friends, you asked and I’m (finally) delivering the summer edition of my foolproof guide for how to dress like a French girl (if you missed the original version, it’s right here)! This story’s really best told via images, so I have a slew more for you on Pinterest (along with my shopping picks to make the look come to life). But in short, here’s the secret formula:

  • A loose, flow-y, slightly-too-short dress with neutral ballet flats and a tiny shoulder bag or tote – never flip flops or sandals!
  • A flared skirt (also just slightly too short) with a short-sleeved or sleeveless silk button-down (my friends at Everlane have this one nailed). Finish with simple wedges – nothing that shows off too much of your foot.
  • Denim cutoffs (the only acceptable shorts for a Parisian), but only when paired with a perfectly slouchy white tee and Converse. The scarf is the game-changer in this look – having a few neutral linen or cotton choices on hand is a must in warmer months (Black and Lilogi always have fantastic options).

Bonus points for anything white, or especially sweet and girly – embroidery, eyelet or lace. To keep the sweet sophisticated, add a neutral shoe, perhaps cognac or black, a ladylike bag and minimal jewelry. And always, always, that messy French girl hair, either long or up in a bun. No flat irons allowed in Paris!

And with that, my friends, I’m going to do the most French girl thing of all: I’m taking a little summer vacances. It’s been a whirlwind spring and summer here at SMC – too many irons in the fire, too much cardio – and what this chronic shopper really needs is a deep breath of fresh air (and a macaron, I think).

But don’t fret – you know I can’t stay unplugged entirely. If you’ll miss me like I’ll miss you, just follow me on social media! I have some travel plans that will give me plenty gorgeous Instagram fodder, I’ll be pinning any unmissable cardio finds, and you know I can’t resist a little snarky Twitter/FB action every now and then. And just to make sure you don’t miss my big return, maybe add me to your reading list on Bloglovin’ or Feedly, if you haven’t already?

I truly hope you have the most delightful summer ahead. I know I’m an exceptionally lucky duck to be able to give myself this time, but I hope you’ll take at least a few days this month to sit in the sunshine, eat too much ice cream, and soak in this gorgeous sun-drenched summer before it fades.

xox,
B

Wishing you a most relaxing vacay! Hope the down time is just what you need. I picked up three of your book picks from yesterday and will be beaching with them before I know it–and I promise to eat too much ice cream while I’m at it!

    Happy August!

Kendra: Enjoy those reads! They’ll be so much better with ice cream.

Serena: Thanks so much! I’ll add a macaron for you…the least I can do.

Milena: Excellent! I hope they serve you well 🙂
