friday finds: random hits a new high

happy friday, everyone!  this week’s finds, as usual, have no rhyme or reason, they’re just fun things that crossed my path this week on the world wide time waster.  enjoy!

i love nearly everything i see from angela adams, so it comes as no surprise that i fell hard for her gorgeous new sunset rug.  if i had one of those immaculate, offbeat white living rooms…you know, something like this:

this would be exactly the rug i’d want right in the middle.  prices run from $425 up to $3,500, so this hand-tufted wool gorgeousness comes at a price.  but, the good news is i spied a sitewide 20% discount running now through 11/8 (code is CELEBRATE).  so, if you’re in the market…

i’m also crushing pretty hard this week on theory’s new exclusive pant collection for shopbop.  as you know, this year is all about the trouser, in a big way, and these six styles have exactly what it takes to be instant wardrobe staples.  my personal favorite?  this perfect black-and-white tweed, which i’m just itching to add to my closet…it doesn’t hurt that the last pair left just happens to be in my size.

another great find this week was a tracy reese dress i fell for when i saw taylor swift sporting it on ellen this week.  which means awful, from-tv photos. but hopefully you get the idea.  but i love the high boatneck, the retro elbow-length sleeves, and that pleated skirt.  the whole look is just so 1950s sophistication, and would be utterly perfect to have in your closet as a last-minute cocktail dress.  it turns out, sadly, this one isn’t available online, but you can nab it for $398 by calling the tracy reese flagship store in manhattan (212.807.0505) if you’re so inclined.  something tells me i’m going to be craving lace in a big way this holiday season…these modern takes i’m seeing feel so elegant but still fashion-forward.

speaking of awful photos, for those of you who have been waiting with bated breath to see how the great camel coat search of 2010 came out, you’ll be glad to know we have a winner. after trying the burberry (itchy, and less flattering), and even seriously considering the leap to maxmara (too delicate), i found perfection in a little coat company based in new york called fleurette.  they use loro piana wool (even better than cashmre, if such a thing is possible), and all of the details are hand-stitched.  the exact style is nowhere to be found online, but this is the longer version.  mine breaks exactly at the knee, so it’s a perfect all-around length.  it’s a beauty!

i hope your week was a little less random than mine apparently was.  have a great weekend, everyone!

friday finds: cozying up to fall

now that we’re officially into that crisp fall weather (my absolute favorite time of year), i thought i’d dedicate this week’s friday finds to all things cozy and warm.  sounds just right at that time of year when you suddenly want suede elbow patches on all of your sweaters, and nothing sounds better than a fireplace and a glass of wine.  so grab your mug of hot cider (or your box of franzia), and read on.

shopbop did a fabulous lookbook of their best outerwear this week, and i swooned many times.  but the piece that really caught my eye was this short-sleeved faux fur by wink ($288).  i know, the fur trend is a little scary.  but this might be the perfect starter faux if you ask me – i love how casually it’s styled, and i think a real person could actually pull this look off.  plus, when the trend dies, this one would still work wonders with a cocktail frock.

since i basically only wear socks with boots, i tend to veer toward a little fun in my knit footwear.  these sweet socks from lisa b. ($19+) are pricey enough you wouldn’t want to lose their mate, but think of the warm fuzzy feeling when you put these on in the morning.  it’d be almost as good as coffee.

this red plaid blouse has that back-to-school, fall days quality i’m looking for this time of year.  i just adore the peter pan collar and that contrasting placket…so sweet!  i’d love to see it layered with a great tweed jacket or a grey cardi, and maybe a fun pleated skirt. or dark skinny jeans.

and, speaking of plaid, i have been head over heels for this see by chloe plaid coat since i first laid eyes on it.  in fact, it’s sitting in my dining room this very moment.  alas, it’s going back…this style would work best on a girl with a slightly smaller chest.  but it’s unbelievably pretty in person, and unbelievably cheap at the outnet right now.  let me know if you need a size 8.

this really has nothing to do with fall…i can’t think of a single tie-in.  but this giles and brother chevron necklace is absolutely gorgeous, even if it is $345, and i’ve had it planned for ‘friday finds’ since i spotted it earlier this week.  so there it is.

have a great weekend, everyone!

my shopbop sale crawl

as usual, shopbop’s seasonal markdowns have me lunging wildly for my credit card.  i didn’t find quite as much as i normally do, but there are still plenty of pieces i’m sure i can’t live without.  plus, these would all stroll seamlessly into my fall wardrobe, which is really all i care about these days.

the dkny cozy ($137): i’ll admit, it baffles me a little.  but there’s a whole iphone app dedicated to sharing the thousand ways there are to wear it, and i dig the camel shade for fall.  i haven’t seen these marked down before, so if you’re already loving the look, this might be the time to jump.

geren ford paneled sweater ($125):  i know, i know, i said no more stripes.  but old habits die hard, and this is such a classic! i’d love to see this layered under a tweed blazer for fall.

james jeans humphrey high rise flare ($126):  rises are on their way back up, and trouser jeans are finally, finally becoming a bit easier to find.  pounce on this classic pair now, and your style problems for fall are solved.

joie martine blouse ($139):  these floaty silk blouses will be everywhere this fall – add them to those trouser jeans above and throw on a cozy scarf in a contrasting pattern for a perfectly chic fall look.  the pattern choices are virtually endless, but i love the soft, ethereal quality of the grey and cream here, and the pleated placket is just a bonus.  this bolder version from patterson j kincaid was a close second, though, and half the price!

as for my buys, i can’t even believe i’m saying this, but i think i’m going to make a full-price splurge on this alexander wang tee.  it’s utterly ridiculous, i know, but his knits are just unbearably soft, and they drape so well!  i’m not even a white tee girl, and i know i’ll be wearing this one to death.

friday finds: new shopbop accessories to covet

i’ve been cruising the “what’s new” section at shopbop a little too much this week, and there are more than a few accessories that i just can’t get out of my head.

starting at the top, from left:  loeffler randall meg booties ($575) that i still can’t figure out how i’d wear, but love nonetheless.  if there’s one thing on this list i’ll actually end up buying, it’s this vanessa mooney dagger necklace ($140), which would be absolutely beautiful layered with a longer pendant necklace – i think jewelry’s trending that way for fall.  gara danielle druzy ring ($144), just because it’s blingy and pretty.

as for the bottom row, from left: halston heritage stingray satchel ($495), an unbelievable steal for a style so luxe and unique, and i predict it’ll be gone in an instant.  tory burch eddie beaded flats ($175), which would look amazing peeking out from trouser jeans, or with a flippy black skirt right now. loeffler randall’s shearling lowe boots ($695) are a serious splurge, but they’re also a serious step up from uggs, with all the cozy warmth!

happy friday, everyone!

speaking of sales: 20% off shopbop’s sale section

a little something to put a spring in your step on a tuesday afternoon, when you’d rather be doing anything besides working:  shopbop’s giving you an additional 20% off anything that’s already on sale.  the deal’s good through tomorrow night (7/14), so get to spending!  use code EXTRA20 to score the deal.

shopbop extra 20

personally, i’d take this opportunity to finally score a gemma redux necklace for myself, or actually pay a reasonable price for a pair of cutoff denim shorts.  or, i might just be completely irresponsible and scroll through the 70% off section until i found something i had to have…at nearly 90% off after the coupon code, how can you argue?

friday finds: the july 4th sale edition

i can’t even begin to get into all of the sale wonderfulness going on across the web this weekend – it is, after all, the holiday weekend during which we celebrate our forefathers’ dedication to bargain shoe shopping for all.

right?

anyway.  first up, sigerson morrison (and it’s baby sister, belle) are now down to 50% off online.  this translates to $200-300 shoes from sigerson, and a big pile of under-$100 options from belle.  too good to pass up?  unquestionably.  now if only they’d mark down my booties already!  (a little tip: their sale page is quite temperamental, but if you plug in your preferred size, it seems to calm down dramatically.)  the styles below are all from belle, and all under $125:

Picture 13Picture 15Picture 14

and the next most exciting sale on my list is allsaints, who i’ve raved about before.  those sale-shopping geniuses over at racked pointed out that their styles are now up to 50% off online, *and* you get free shipping in the US – a very exciting thing indeed, since they’re based in the UK.  in particular, the luna dress and, though it’s a little out of character, the devanna skirt, are both high on my list, as is the suesha cardigan, though i’m more than a little scared i couldn’t actually figure out how to wear it.

Picture 18Picture 19Picture 22

other sales and steals of note include:

  • le train bleu:  25% off sitewide this weekend with code onefourth
  • basic boutique:  40% off sitewide (excluding final sale items) through monday with code CELEBRATE40
  • blue bee:  a big ol’ sale section up to 70% off for the next few days, priced as marked.
  • shopbop:  a whole new batch of markdowns hit the site in celebration of the 4th, and there are some goodies to be had!

if other deals cross my path, i’ll most likely be too lazy to update this page.  so, i’ll throw them up on my twitter feed – in case you needed more incentive to follow me.

going gatsby

i’ve spent the last hour browsing shopbop, in the vain hope that i’d be able to find a little something to splurge on to make myself get excited about the impeding warm weather.  but as usual, i’m having a really hard time getting excited about spring & summer fashions.  must everything for warm weather be either crotch-grazingly short or unbearably frumpy?  sigh.

my warm-weather whining aside, i’ve said before that i think maxi-dresses are on the way out, and wouldn’t generally advise them as an investment buy these days.  but even so, i’m seriously wishing i had a great gatsby party (how fun would that be?!) or maybe just an outdoor wedding on the agenda to justify buying this beautiful jersey frock:

i’m in love with the sheer elegance of this A.L.C. nadine dress, and it would just be oh-so-easy to wear to any summer festivities.  it’s not a maxi-dress in anything other than length – it’s utterly flattering, perfectly figure-skimming, and the cut of the bodice is just the right degree of sexy to balance out this floor-length style.

if it were $100, i wouldn’t even care that i had nowhere to wear it…but at $473, it would have to be a “necessary” buy, i fear.  anyone have summer plans that could justify buying this beauty?
