friday finds: the july 4th sale edition

i can’t even begin to get into all of the sale wonderfulness going on across the web this weekend – it is, after all, the holiday weekend during which we celebrate our forefathers’ dedication to bargain shoe shopping for all.

right?

anyway.  first up, sigerson morrison (and it’s baby sister, belle) are now down to 50% off online.  this translates to $200-300 shoes from sigerson, and a big pile of under-$100 options from belle.  too good to pass up?  unquestionably.  now if only they’d mark down my booties already!  (a little tip: their sale page is quite temperamental, but if you plug in your preferred size, it seems to calm down dramatically.)  the styles below are all from belle, and all under $125:

Picture 13Picture 15Picture 14

and the next most exciting sale on my list is allsaints, who i’ve raved about before.  those sale-shopping geniuses over at racked pointed out that their styles are now up to 50% off online, *and* you get free shipping in the US – a very exciting thing indeed, since they’re based in the UK.  in particular, the luna dress and, though it’s a little out of character, the devanna skirt, are both high on my list, as is the suesha cardigan, though i’m more than a little scared i couldn’t actually figure out how to wear it.

Picture 18Picture 19Picture 22

other sales and steals of note include:

  • le train bleu:  25% off sitewide this weekend with code onefourth
  • basic boutique:  40% off sitewide (excluding final sale items) through monday with code CELEBRATE40
  • blue bee:  a big ol’ sale section up to 70% off for the next few days, priced as marked.
  • shopbop:  a whole new batch of markdowns hit the site in celebration of the 4th, and there are some goodies to be had!

if other deals cross my path, i’ll most likely be too lazy to update this page.  so, i’ll throw them up on my twitter feed – in case you needed more incentive to follow me.

this just in: tiffini dooris store closing sale

for those of you that have been longtime admirers of tiffini dooris‘ beautiful jewelry designs, you’ll be sad to hear that she’s closing up shop.  i’ve been a fan of tiffini’s since the very beginning…in fact, her rough-cut sapphire necklace was my first fine jewelry purchase for myself.  she just has a talent for making pieces that are special, but still so classic and wearable…i really hate to see her leave the design sphere.

if there’s a silver lining to this cloud, it’s that tiffini has put her entire website on a crazy, super sale to get rid of her stock.  you have until july 12 to buy, and prices are up to 75% off, including my absolute favorites from her latest collection:

Picture 10

those mint leaf earrings, at left, are just so sweet and delicate…and now they’re only $20.  even the simple gold disc earrings at right (and yes, those are real diamonds) top out at $57.  all of her pieces are designed to become serious classics in your jewelry box – i have earrings almost identical to those little gold drops, and i can tell you i wear them at least three times a week.  they’re perfection!

she also has several pieces by other designers on the site (also heavily discounted), including catherine weitzman and pade vavra, but it’s tiffini’s pieces i’d be scrambling for.  whatever you choose, shop fast…i’m sure her stock is limited.  and of course, let me know what you pick up!!

2nd June 2010

a banner week, and it’s only wednesday

it’s getting to be a pretty epic week here in stumptown…all of my favorite things in life are magically converging, to the point that i finally had to share.

first, i finally (FINALLY!) have internet and cable again, after a considerably long time in the dark after our move.  i’ve never really considered myself to be a person that thrives on the .www or on television…but it turns out, i was wrong.  in fact, we even got hbo…and as i was scrolling through my newfound options, my head nearly exploded.  the technology, she is good.

earlier this week, i got to check out sex and the city 2 with my friend, the fabulously talented westmama.  while we were both sorely disappointed in the fashion, the interior design was pretty much awesome.  and really, let’s face it, even a so-so two hours with carrie and the gang still makes for an excellent afternoon.

if you’re feeling extra loyal to the fab foursome, i have to admit that there are some fun merchandising options floating around.  how cute are those little foldable after-party flats?  and i have to admit, i’m sort of tempted to nab that stiletto pendant by dogeared…since i adore the heel but hate the discomfort, maybe this is a good way to declare my loyalty without sacrificing my toes.

then, yesterday, i visited the one-week-only pop-up shop for le train bleu, one of my favorite online window-shopping haunts.  let’s just say the “window” part of that sentence went, well, out the window when i stopped by.  an hour later, i emerged bleary-eyed but sated, with an unbelievably flattering new dress, and some fabulous new jewelry that i may not be cool enough to wear, but i plan to try anyway.

if you’re in portland or nearby, the shop’s open through sunday…there are loads of one-of-a-kinds and severely discounted goodies that are not to be missed.  and if you’re not local, well, you should still buy the dress online (looks like code hellooooosummer is still working for 40% off as of now).  it’s not much to look at on a mannequin, but on a person?  very, very good…and a total steal.  in fact, it’s only slightly less wonderful than this one i mentioned a few weeks back.  sadly, trying that one on was one of those times i wished for a slightly smaller chest. if you’re more proportionately endowed than i am, i can not overstate how awesome the eskell dress was when i tried it on.

and if all that wasn’t enough, now i’m headed out to hear my all-time most idolized person (we’re talking “what one person would you invite to your fantasy tea party” idolizing here), dr. maya angelou, speak tonight.  yeah, i really should have led with that one, as it’s definitely topping my list at present.

yep, good times in the land of eternal rain…seriously, isn’t it summer yet?

friday finds: my sale faves

today is a little crazy (i’m moving next week…agh!), but i couldn’t resist taking a second to share a few of the steals that came my way via my shop it to me’ newsletter this morning.  if you don’t already know about ’shop it to me’, it’s an e-newsletter that comes out daily, letting you know when something by a brand or store you love goes on sale in your size.  dangerous!

anyway, today was an especially good day for markdowns, apparently.  a few of my faves:

i’ve been looking for new trouser jeans everywhere, and haven’t been able to find a single pair.  but i really like this version from tory burch, and they’re down to $136.

Picture 3

this is such a great skirt from DVF, and it’s marked down to $171.  i love that it’s a slightly girly alternative to all of the military khaki out this season.  it would be perfect paired with a print top for some contrast, or even just a simple tee to keep it classic.

Picture 4

as you’ve heard me whine, i’ve been hunting for a summer dress with a respectable hemline, and this super-flattering DKNY version is now just $70 at bloomingdales, so i’m thinking it’s a must-buy.

Picture 5

this little kate spade shoulder bag just feels like the perfect effortless summer tote.  i love the nautical stripe, and i love even more that it’s nylon (not stain-happy cotton), which also keeps it lightweight.  and it has the look of those tiny bags everyone’s sporting now, but you’ll actually be able to pack more than you think.  it’s by kate spade, and down to $197 at amazon.

i’ve been wanting a little something in druzy agate for months now, and $24.99 for these sweet stud earrings is just too good to pass up.

Picture 7

have a great weekend, everyone!  i’ll be spending mine packing and cleaning out my closets…pray for me.

(incidentally, for those of you keeping score, i switched around the order of pictures & text. what do you think? better, worse or indifferent?)

12th May 2010

the spring inhabit sample sale is on!!

the spring sample sale is on at inhabit!  70% off…need i say more?

actually, i probably should say a bit more.  i should tell you that i got the chance to test out their 100% cotton line recently, and believe me when i tell you they’re every bit as wonderful as the inhabit cashmere i can’t get enough of.  the cotton is so delicate and finely woven, it was hard for me to believe that it really was just cotton…in fact, i checked the label twice.  it’s divine…particularly when marked down to $40-50 from $200+.

buy fast…styles are limited, and the sale only lasts until tomorrow night.  spring might not feel like the right time to buy sweaters, but trust me…take the plunge now.  you’ll be kicking yourself for missing this one when their cashmere goes back up to its regular, splurge-tastic price.

6th April 2010

the shopbop spring sale is on!

is it really possible that it’s time for spring sales already?  shopbop usually leads the pack in these matters, but still!  not that i’m one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and this sale is definitely, definitely a gift horse.  loads of pretty spring dresses, including my favorite buy of the season: my alexander wang cowl neck dress – at 50% off, no less (a little tip: size down on this one)!

from left: marc by marc jacobs splish splash dress, $208; t by alexander wang cowl dress, $46; free people striped shirtdress, $75.

and of course, don’t forget the staples.  i’ve been dying to try the citizens of humanity morrison jean – i love the narrow boot cut, and more forgiving rise – and i may finally have found my excuse:  30% off!  i’m also pretty crazy about this mike & chris moto jacket, which would be perfect for pattern mixing…after all, what wouldn’t match that chic marled fabric?  (though, if you happen to be a size 6, please, please take advantage of this amazing rag & bone tuxedo jacket, marked down 70%!)  the jewelry is also especially nice this time around…i’m sorely tempted to splurge on a bold new necklace (or three).

from left: citizens of humanity morrison slim boot, $144; mike & chris dede moto jacket, $157; cc skye devin necklace, $136.

but i’d really like to know what you’re splurging on…even if it’s only in your head!  leave your picks in the comments, and we’ll have ourselves a little virtual shopping marathon!

9th February 2010

the shopbop winter sale is on!

oh, i was going to be lazy and not post today…but then i started browsing shopbop’s latest batch of markdowns, and i just think it’s too good not to share.  definitely worth slacking off at work a bit this morning to browse, but i’ll show off a few of my favorites to get you started:

i’ve finally caved and admitted that the short boot may have a place in my closet after all. this grey suede pair from antik batik (down 50% to $236) might just be the one. i love the low-ish stacked heel, and the low-cut angle at the top of the boot just might get me to try these with a skirt.  maybe.

and as for the green suede pumps?  well, they’re stuart weitzman, they’re 70% off (making them $89), and i can tell you that my own green suede pumps, though they happen to be sigerson morrison, are probably the shoes i’d grab first if my house were on fire.  such a great, happy color, and they’re so much more versatile than you’d think.

if you happen to be after that blazer look, i love this version from seven for all mankind.  the length is infinitely more forgiving than cropped styles, it’s lacking the shoulderpad-and-rolled-sleeves combo that reminds me all too painfully of junior high, and there’s a little spandex in there for the comfort factor.  it’s 30% off now, making it $192 – not a steal, but definitely a worthy buy.

this ella moss dress is a 70% find (just $60!), and just believe me when i say it will be your spring staple.  these abstracted prints (this one’s actually a snakeskin print) are going to be everywhere!  the ruching makes it figure-flattering, and the length is actually presentable!  for now, add a jewel-toned cardi (yellow, emerald or a bright red would be fab!), black tights and yes, maybe a little pair of booties.  perfect!

personally, i’m hoping to take the plunge on a new pair of boots and a few tees i wouldn’t have bought at full price.  these versions from kain, monrow and rachel pally all come with excellent references from the fashion powers that be, in terms of fit and longevity.  they’re so much more chic than anything you’ll find at old navy, and the sale price keeps me from having to cover my eyes when i click “purchase.”

what are you excited to scoop up in this fabulous sale?  (fictional purchases are welcome too!)

1st February 2010

sweet steals: nordstrom rack, be still my heart!

for those of you living near a nordstrom rack, i highly suggest a lunchtime or after-work visit…today, if possible.  i took a little time to check it out yesterday, and they have some pretty serious sales happening – a good chunk of the store is marked anywhere from 35-60% off the lowest marked price – i spotted nanette lepore, burberry, james perse, splendid…definitely above and beyond the usual suspects.

the rack is always my favorite super-secret source for designer denim (you do know about this, right?).  even the highest-end styles top out around $80 there, instead of the $150+ you’ll pay retail.  but yesterday, i may have nabbed my best deal ever:  a pair of paige denim’s “jimmy jimmy” boyfriend jeans marked down to $79, with an additional 60% off!!

Picture 22

yep, brand new paiges for $30…life is good.  i’m always the world’s biggest fan of paige denim (she and i just seem to have the same butt, what can i say?), but the cut on this jean is especially nice.  it’s a bit loose (try going down a size), but the backside is still super flattering and the rise isn’t too low.  plus, the distressing is subtle enough that even grown-up girls can wear them.  i’m especially loving this style because it’s not actually cropped, like so many of the boyfriend jeans.  it’s perfect rolled up, so you can have that ‘boyfriend jean’ look, but when it’s out of style, just unroll the cuffs, and they’ll be a great straight leg jean.

to nab this steal, just stroll on past the regular racks of denim and look for the clearance rack – there were a few rock & republic styles, and even a pair or two of joe’s jeans, all at some seriously amazing prices.

oh, and while you’re there…i spotted at least two pairs of jimmy choos (including these lovelies) for $229, plus an additional 35% off.  just sayin’.

cyber monday madness

happy cyber monday, everyone!  i hope you had a fabulous holiday, and got plenty of r&r.  you’ll need it to comb through today’s list of cyber monday specials!

there’s really no particular order here, sorry…this just isn’t a science.  i’m being a little bit discerning with what i share, but i’m erring on the side of more information.  after all, just because we’re hip and stylish doesn’t mean our families are!

i’ll update this today as more steals cross my path – you’ll know the new deals because i’ll put them at the top of the list, in a new “recently added” category.  fair enough?  and, of course, if you know of any great deals, leave them in the comments! the more, the merrier, especially when it comes to steals and deals.

blue bee:  this is a fabulous spot for designer denim, jewels, hot shoes…everything, more or less.  save a modest 10% sitewide with code CM1009.

steven alan:  not a cyber monday deal in the truest sense, but they have a pretty wonderful sale cooking right now.  up to 60% off on some of my favorite picks from the season, as well as some great gifts for the guys.

hlaska:  this is one of my favorite spots for streamlined, un-frilly leather goods, especially for men’s gifts. grab gorgeous wallets, travel bags and laptop cases for 20% off with code HOL20 (good through 12/15).

ideeli:  free shipping all day today at this sample sale site.  today’s sales include free people, la rok, and hobo international – none of which are bad gifting solutions.

simply soles:  save 20% storewide at simply soles today, plus free shipping on orders over $75.  it’s a great spot to score frye or tory burch shoes on sale!

shopbop:  don’t forget the spend/save event at shopbop, which ends tonight.  use code GIFT4U and take $50 off your $300 purchase, $100 off $500, and so on up the ladder.

gold & citrus:  i have to say, i’m quite enjoying this jewelry designer’s modern take on gems.  this is a cyber monday deal i’m keeping for myself.  save 20% with code GOLDEN20 on some pretty fabulous statement necklaces.

christine mighion:  this is that gorgeous eco-friendly fine jewelry designer i introduced to you recently, and now it’s 30% off with code holiday09.

emily elizabeth jewelry:  another personal favorite of mine, these designs are just hip, fun and easy (not to mention perfectly priced for gifting!).  especially when you take another 25% off the marked price with code SAVE25.

tory burch:  really only a steal if you’re already in the market for something pricey.  but if you are, you can take 30% off orders over $300 with code TURKEY30.

levenger:  possibly the perfect store for gifting to bibliophiles, or just hyper-organized people like myself.  score 20% off through 12/2 with code MON92.

red envelope:  not my favorite for gifting, but it’s a good spot when you just don’t know what to get someone.  save 15% on a bevy of only moderately generic gift ideas with code 15FORYOU (through 12/3).

blurb:  if you’re feeling extra creative this season, a photo book from blurb is a great handmade gift that would take minimal effort on your part.  take 20% off an order made by 12/1 with code BLURBJOY (only on orders $39.95 and higher).
