Happy Friday, friends! I’m feeling kind of thoughtfully, intentionally slow this spring morning, so I hope you’ll forgive a little brain wandering in today’s FF.

First things first: let’s talk deals. I happen to know that Kate SpadeVince and Cole Haan are all having their Friends & Family promos this weekend, and they’re doozies. I have all the details up on my Facebook and Twitter feeds…so much easier to keep you updated on all the best steals in real time. Read on

friday finds, in brief

boots

It’s a small list of finds this week, my friends. I’m working like mad on this year’s SMC Holiday Gift Guides, so my head’s swimming with sugar plums and scented lotions. Truthfully, I already feel like I’m weeks behind…does anyone else get completely panicked when they see all of these blog gift guides pop up in early November? So much pressure! My guides will be running the week after Thanksgiving, which I think is plenty of shopping time for us civilized folk, thankyouverymuch.

Happy Friday, friends! I think I’m suffering from Sympathetic Hurricane Syndrome…I’ve spent all week in a weird, quiet funk, hunkered down and not really in the mood to shop. Which is fine, as it turns out, because the only emails I’ve gotten this week are from stores and brands letting me know they’re still not able to ship. But I’ll tell you what I do know: I heart NY.

So. What to do with yourself while you’re holed up at home? I’ll tell you.

friday finds

Oh, I have some good, good finds for you this week, friends. Shall we dive right in?

I spotted this little polka-dot baby over at Oh Joy, and fell for almost everything Made by Hank has to offer. If you’re in the market for a crossbody bag on a budget, look no further. madebyhank friday finds

I nabbed this sweet little Lulu Frost tortoise bracelet during J.Crew’s last 25% off special (not to be confused with their current 25% off special – code STYLE25 works on orders of $150+ through Sunday). When I got it, it was even more wonderful than I’d expected. This bad boy’s going to get some serious fall mileage.

Screen Shot 2012 09 28 at 8.42.36 AM friday findsI read about this over at Creature Comforts: looks like artist Hannah Evelyn Rowlands is doing some serious good for a puppy shelter in her area. For just under $20 (USD), she’ll sketch your dog, and all of the proceeds go to her local dog shelter. What are you waiting for?

A dear friend of mine is a human rights attorney who’s chosen to spend her life living in some very raw corners of the world, protecting people who sorely need protection. She just left Cambodia to start a new position in Thailand. In addition to being an amazing human being, she is a fantastic photographer and has some serious style. If you’re into the colors and flavors of exotic travel, you’d do well to follow her amazing blog, Anchors Adrift.

And of course, I can’t go without leaving you my Pinterest pick of the week. It’s been a busy week of pinning for me, so this was no easy feat. But I think my favorite of the week is this amazing shot of someone who’s styled oxblood so perfectly, there’s literally no room for improvement. I want every single thing on her bod.

friday finds: a glamorous morning

Happy Friday, friends! Today’s list is all about turning those dreary, dragging weekday mornings into something a little more extraordinary. Enough with fumbling blindly for our iPhones and staggering toward the shower…it’s time to add some glam to your morning routine.

Brace yourselves: I’m about to recommend a $6 shampoo. No, really. Heidi Klum has been schilling for Clear Haircare, so I decided to give it a try (celebrity endorsements: they work, people). And though I was the skepticalest of skeptics, I kind of love it…more than my usual $30 shampoo, in fact. I’m sure it’s packed full of sulfates, but I can’t even remember why those were so bad for us. As promised, it does a great job of improving scalp health – my hair sheds less, my scalp is less itchy on non-wash days…I’m a happy girl. Stick with your old conditioner, though.

In some alternate reality, I’d spend the morning hours lounging in La Perla while my butler brings me tea. But the reality is, it’s a stretch to make much of anything feel glam before 8 am. But now imagine you wake up and make yourself tea in this mug, then add a slow drizzle of organic honey from your beautiful teak honey jar. I’m feeling more glamorous already.

It was like at first sight when I came across Lola James jewelry. Every piece is so easy – a complete no-brainer to wear or even to layer. And they’re so fun and cheerful, it would be impossible not to smile when you put them on. Then I saw the prices. Now, it’s love.

Nothing adds that final piece of cheery polish to an outfit like tossing on a gorgeous scarf as you head out the door. Our fabulous sale spy, Roxanna, introduced me to a new line, and I’m obsessed. I suspect you will be too. They have a bevy of beautiful options, but this sunset-inspired palette is easily my favorite.

And before you head out the door, a pretty, pretty Pinterest pick to put you in a happy mood: Oscar de la Renta, fresh from his spring 2013 runway. How can you help but be happy in the face of turquoise, feathers and tulle?

I feel better already. How about you?

friday finds

Happy Friday, friends! Is it 100 degrees where you are too? Terrifying. So, you’ll forgive my brevity today if you picture me blogging on the couch with a hot laptop sitting on my legs. Let’s get straight to business!

Net-a-Porter got a new fall delivery today, and I’m choosing to ignore the heat by coveting a few fall goodies.

Cashmere two-tone sweater, Clu, $305 / Leather-trimmed cardi coat, Vince, $485 / Wool peacoat, Burberry Brit, $1195

Of course, in reality, that Vince coat might make me look a little like an off-duty judge. And the Burberry peacoat is completely the wrong color for a pale girl like me. But I still think they’re gorgeous.

But then I have to ask about this: are we really doing dickies again? Granted, this one is pretty hip. And it’s by Miu Miu. But still…dickies?

Sigh. I hope not. In the category of great sale finds today, if you happen to be a student, know a student or want to be unscrupulous and exploit the completely illegitimate code I happen to have in my possession (email me), you can take 20% off at Topshop this weekend. Just sayin’.

Our intrepid Details columnist, Kate, alerted me to serious fashion news: the lovely ladies behind Sigerson Morrison have finally re-emerged with a new line! Enter Pied Juste, being sold exclusively at Anthropologie right now. Get a peek and buy early – their prices are pretty well guaranteed to go up in future seasons.

Last but not least, it’s Pinterest time. I’m always looking for a new way to tie a silk scarf…I find them uniquely challenging. But the Duchess has it nailed here. I’m assuming she has staff to follow her around and ensure it doesn’t budge, as whenever I try this, it’s a constant struggle to keep it from slipping off my neck and into my cappuccino. Still, the result is impeccable. And if you want your own “official Olympic scarf”, you can find hers right here.

Have a wonderful weekend, all! Stay cool, and I’ll see you back here Monday, when you’ll get to meet the first of our new guest writers. Can’t wait to make the introductions!

friday finds: olympic edition

For the first time in my life, I officially have Olympic fever! I’ve been watching the coverage (and dodging news about results) all week, and am absolutely loving the Games this year. So, I thought I’d add a little global flair to this week’s Finds. If nothing else, the Olympics is a great reminder that we’re not nearly as far apart as we sometimes imagine.

I have to start in London, obviously. One of my favorite British designers, Another Studio, has come up with yet another genius idea (remember her PostCardens?). It’s MONUmini, a flat model kit that transforms into a mini 3D steel model of one of several London landmarks – including my favorite, the Tower Bridge. Olympic Rings sold separately.

I bought the sweetest little clutch/carryall pouch last week at Beam and Anchor, and didn’t think much about its origin at the time. Turns out, it’s made by a collective of skilled women scattered around the globe, weaving with traditional methods and being paid a fair wage. Now that I know I’m doing a good deed by buying, I have to figure out which of their goodies to order next.

Next, we’ll head East to Uganda (via Portland, if you can believe it). I met the most fantastic person last weekend: Liz, who created Sseko Designs with her husband. Not only are these sandals completely genius (one pair you can wear dozens of ways!), but they’re made by some very talented women in Uganda. I am dying to get my hands on a pair, if only so I can try making it through my next beach trip with just one pair of shoes in my bag. sseko friday finds: olympic edition

And of course, I have to end up at the good ol’ US of A. But I’m going all political on you. I’ve been meaning to show you this fantastic collection of Obama tees designed by some of the best designers in the country – genius, if you ask me. I’ve worn my fair share of political garb in my day, and these take the patriotic cake!

I’ve been unbelievably negligent on Pinterest this week, but this photo of those gorgeous Olympic Rings headed for their spot on the Tower Bridge is pretty amazing. I only wish I knew the source. If you do, please share.
