gift guide: joy gryson’s finds for the SMC girl

{Editor’s Note: This year, I’ve asked a few of the people whose style I spend all year admiring to share their holiday wish lists. Stay tuned – we’ll have a new expert every day for the next two weeks!} fashion gift guide

I’ve been a fan (bordering on a groupie) of Joy Gryson‘s since she debuted her very first collection…even her very first bag. In fact, I still have my original Skye bag, and I still get stopped on the street every time I carry it. Joy started out designing for big names like Coach and Calvin Klein, and was the Director of Design at Marc Jacobs (where she designed most of their now-iconic styles) before she left to found her own brand in 2006. Since then, Gryson has grown incredibly, but that impeccable quality and thoughtful attention to detail hasn’t changed a bit. What I love most about Joy – besides the fact that she’s a superstar designer who is so friendly and down-to-earth that she still answers my emails personally! – is her ability to seamlessly blend an uptown aesthetic with downtown hip.

Just as I’d hoped, Joy’s wish list is packed with picks that would be just the thing for a girl whose style is classic with a touch of edge…in other words, you and me! I don’t know about you, but this is the list I’ll be forwarding directly to Santa.

  1. For the holidays this year, I am excited to be giving to all of my friends and family the Olivia Harris Tech wallet and the IIIBeCa Church Street Crossbody. They are both small, easy, and completely practical…and it doesn’t hurt that it is something I designed so it makes the gift even more special! Wallet, $98 (more colors here) and Crossbody, $98 (more colors here)
  2. In the winter, I live in lightweight knit sweaters – especially ones with an interesting texture, cut or detailing. Inhabit melange crew, $358
  3. I’m a big advocate of sleepwear that’s pretty but comfortable. I live in cute short sets like these! Sleepy Jones Paloma shorts, $84 | Eberjey Free Bird set, $88 (on sale!)
  4. Classic sunglasses, especially aviators, are my favorite – they never go out of style. The rose gold details make these feel so luxe. Linda Farrow rose gold aviators, $730 (less splurgey options here)
  5. I love delicate earrings and rings. Anything in rose gold (I’ll always choose gold over silver), with diamonds or even black diamonds. These two treats are high on my wish list this year! Finn Arrow Ring in rose gold, $650 and…
  6. … Ileana Makri black diamond studs, $1,850
  7. I am a big jacket girl – they make even simple outfits look dressed up, and they’re so easy. I love the leather detailing on this one. maje Dulk blazer, $565
  8. This necklace looks so rich – the bezel-set stone with the small pavé detail makes this fierce and sophisticated at the same time. It’s a great show piece for not a lot of money! Stella & Dot Allegra necklace, $89
  9. Being that I have 3 cats and a dog, this iPhone case totally makes me happy! Tsumori Chisato iPhone case, $62
  10. I love oversized scarves in lightweight cashmere or cotton. Any scarf by Faliero Sarti is amazing! Faliero Sarti Gerberina scarf, $175 (more here)
  11. This watch is the perfect accessory. I love that it looks like a bracelet while being so functional at the same time. The modern clean lines and the play of texture definitely speak to me. Balenciaga Montre Acier watch, $1,950

Thank you so much, Joy! Truly, if you haven’t yet treated yourself to one of Joy’s designs, you simply have to put one on your holiday wish list. I’m telling you…one piece, and you’ll be hooked!
