cheap thrill: inhabit ny

Well, those are words I never thought I’d type together: cheap thrill and Inhabit? But it’s true – nab my all-time favorite cotton cardigan from Inhabit NY for a crazy $55 today.

It’s available in crew and v-neck styles, but my favorite is the v-neck. Believe me when I tell you these are not your typical cotton cardigan. In fact, when I get compliments on them (and I always do), people are amazed that they’re cotton, not silk. Tip: be sure to check out the separate listings for each style to see all the available color options.

Nab one in every color you love – you won’t be sorry!

friday finds: my kind of easter egg hunt

What a fun, utterly exhausting week!  I hope yours has been good as well, and that you’re ready for chocolate eggs, Easter brunch, and lots of leftover ham.  Mostly, though, I hope you have today off from work.

I was going to take Good Friday off (because, you know, I’m so religious…), but couldn’t resist “hopping” in to tell you about a few steals that have hit my in-box.

First up, J.Crew is doing one of those things that never happens:  free shipping at any price with code WARMUP (good through Sunday only).  So, now’s the time to check out a few of my favorite new pieces for spring:

From top left: Tomboy tunic, $74; Pier stripe sweatshirt, $68; Silk layering tank, $75; Iris suede sandals, $118; Watson suede sandals, $198.

Another “thing that never happens” is going on at Steven Alan, where you can take 25% off any one item this weekend with code HIPHOP25.  I was a little too excited about this one, until I saw it’s only good on Steven Alan merch (ie, those Rachel Comey boots are still full price).  But, it’s still a deal, especially if you’re in the market for a breezy plaid shirt to throw on over your summer cutoffs.  And really, who isn’t?

From top left (all prices before 25% discount): Tyler skirt, on sale for $115; Spring reverse-seam shirt, $158; Georgiana bag, $475; Carmen tank, on sale for $139.

And last, but most definitely not least, these cutie pie stripe-and-polka-dot sweaters from Cardigan NY (a personal favorite of mine) are a whopping 50% off, plus free shipping, through Sunday.  The magic code for this one is dotdotdot.  I’m sorely, sorely tempted to up the style quotient of my now-standard mariner with one of these cuties.

By the way, is anyone else way more smitten with cutoff denim shorts this year than they ever have been, or is it just me?  Something about the styling this season is just…working.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone – and remember, once Lent and Passover end, it’s totally expected that you reward yourself with a little treat for all of your good works.

cyber monday 2010: let’s get ready to retail!

for those of you who look forward to today not just because it’s your first day back at work in nearly a week (thrilling, i know), but because “cyber monday” means you can pretend to work while actually scoring loads of deals and steals you can nab without engaging in fist fights at your favorite suburban mall, this post is for you.

as is our custom here at SMC, i’ll be giving you a rundown of the best discounts i see today – we’ll start with a list now (ranked in order of importance, as i see it), and as i get new information, i’ll add it to the top of the list, in italics, so you’ll know what the most recent updates are.  happy hunting!

  • piperlime:  take 20% off sitewide until midnight with code LUCKY20.  this should be a fun one to abuse for self-gifting purposes!
  • satsuma press: take 20% off sitewide on lynn’s amazingly beautiful collection of all-occasion cards, holiday cards, and that stunning 2011 letterpress calendar.  code SECRETSALE gets you the deal through 11/30.
  • hayden-harnett:  they’ve bumped up the steals today, so discounts are up to 70% on the site.  plus, save 20% today on orders over $500 with code THANKFUL500 (the code also gets you free shipping and some awesome free goodies!).
  • emporio armani:  take 40% off the fall/winter collection through 12/4 with code SALEFW10.
  • 20×200:  if you’re gifting art, this is the way to do it.  take 20% off orders of $200+ with code CM200X.
  • cardigan new york:  i don’t normally like the “save up to…” nonsense on a day like this – i’m looking for a real sale – but this one’s a steal.  save “up to” 65% at cardigan new york, an excellent source for, well, cardigans…and striped sweaters galore!
  • inhabit:  in case you hadn’t noticed, it’s my favorite place for cashmere…and the pricing just got giftable.  take 30% off sitewide today with code THANKS.  you’ll be the talk of the family party if you’re gifting anything at all from this brand!
  • cole haan:  save 40% on one single item with code MONDAY40 (you’ll need to create an account to redeem this one), and 20% on all sale items with code 20SALE; good today only.
  • ron herman: if you’ve been craving an alexander wang handbag, this is *by far* the best price i’ve seen.  already down 30-ish%, they’re down another 30% today at ron herman, making the darcy (my favorite style) a paltry $255.  highway robbery, i’m telling you…these will sell out in no time.

  • steven alan:  save 20% on orders of $250+ with code SAVE20; today only.

  • eberjey:  this is one i’m hoping to take advantage of.  take 20% off sitewide on all the snuggly pajamas and other sleepwear you can carry.  use code CYBER2010 – and if you order before 12PM (EST), you’ll get an additional 5% off!
  • goldyn:  take 35% off sitewide with code FRIDAYMONDAY; ends today.
  • tory burch:  spend $300, take 30% off, get free shipping and receive a free limited edition snakeskin print tote with code GETGIFTS; ends today.

  • paige denim:  take 15% off if you buy two pairs of denim with code CYBER15, and 25% off if you buy three, with code CYBER25. also, take 25% off leather jackets with LEATHER25.  all good today only, and they all come with free shipping.

  • dean & deluca:  free shipping on orders of $125+. no code necessary, ends today.  not earth-shattering, but they never seem to offer free shipping, so this is a great opportunity if you’re gifting food.
  • bluefly:  they’ve taken an additional 10-20% off sitewide for today…while i like a good coupon code so i can compute my own steal, this one sounds pretty good!
  • tobi:  take 30% off sitewide with code THANKS30; ends today.
  • powell’s books:  my favorite bookstore ever – save 16% sitewide today with code SAVE16.  sure, it’s not amazon, but that’s why it’s so great!
  • henri bendel:  save 30% online only (a very limited selection of mostly bendel-branded merchandise, but it’s still fun), and get free shipping with code CYBERHB.  good today only.
  • max and chloe:  if you don’t know about max and chloe, they’re stocked to the brim with all of your favorite costume jewelry, usually on sale.  today only, take $30 off $150, $75 off $250, and so on with code HOLIDAY10.   worth a look!
  • john robshaw textiles:  this isn’t, strictly speaking, a cyber monday deal, as it’s good through the end of the year. but a sale at john robshaw demands attention.  save 15% off orders of $250+ with code HOLIDAY.

ready….set…..credit!

friday finds: the july 4th sale edition

i can’t even begin to get into all of the sale wonderfulness going on across the web this weekend – it is, after all, the holiday weekend during which we celebrate our forefathers’ dedication to bargain shoe shopping for all.

right?

anyway.  first up, sigerson morrison (and it’s baby sister, belle) are now down to 50% off online.  this translates to $200-300 shoes from sigerson, and a big pile of under-$100 options from belle.  too good to pass up?  unquestionably.  now if only they’d mark down my booties already!  (a little tip: their sale page is quite temperamental, but if you plug in your preferred size, it seems to calm down dramatically.)  the styles below are all from belle, and all under $125:

Picture 13Picture 15Picture 14

and the next most exciting sale on my list is allsaints, who i’ve raved about before.  those sale-shopping geniuses over at racked pointed out that their styles are now up to 50% off online, *and* you get free shipping in the US – a very exciting thing indeed, since they’re based in the UK.  in particular, the luna dress and, though it’s a little out of character, the devanna skirt, are both high on my list, as is the suesha cardigan, though i’m more than a little scared i couldn’t actually figure out how to wear it.

Picture 18Picture 19Picture 22

other sales and steals of note include:

  • le train bleu:  25% off sitewide this weekend with code onefourth
  • basic boutique:  40% off sitewide (excluding final sale items) through monday with code CELEBRATE40
  • blue bee:  a big ol’ sale section up to 70% off for the next few days, priced as marked.
  • shopbop:  a whole new batch of markdowns hit the site in celebration of the 4th, and there are some goodies to be had!

if other deals cross my path, i’ll most likely be too lazy to update this page.  so, i’ll throw them up on my twitter feed – in case you needed more incentive to follow me.

this just in: tiffini dooris store closing sale

for those of you that have been longtime admirers of tiffini dooris‘ beautiful jewelry designs, you’ll be sad to hear that she’s closing up shop.  i’ve been a fan of tiffini’s since the very beginning…in fact, her rough-cut sapphire necklace was my first fine jewelry purchase for myself.  she just has a talent for making pieces that are special, but still so classic and wearable…i really hate to see her leave the design sphere.

if there’s a silver lining to this cloud, it’s that tiffini has put her entire website on a crazy, super sale to get rid of her stock.  you have until july 12 to buy, and prices are up to 75% off, including my absolute favorites from her latest collection:

Picture 10

those mint leaf earrings, at left, are just so sweet and delicate…and now they’re only $20.  even the simple gold disc earrings at right (and yes, those are real diamonds) top out at $57.  all of her pieces are designed to become serious classics in your jewelry box – i have earrings almost identical to those little gold drops, and i can tell you i wear them at least three times a week.  they’re perfection!

she also has several pieces by other designers on the site (also heavily discounted), including catherine weitzman and pade vavra, but it’s tiffini’s pieces i’d be scrambling for.  whatever you choose, shop fast…i’m sure her stock is limited.  and of course, let me know what you pick up!!

a banner week, and it’s only wednesday

it’s getting to be a pretty epic week here in stumptown…all of my favorite things in life are magically converging, to the point that i finally had to share.

first, i finally (FINALLY!) have internet and cable again, after a considerably long time in the dark after our move.  i’ve never really considered myself to be a person that thrives on the .www or on television…but it turns out, i was wrong.  in fact, we even got hbo…and as i was scrolling through my newfound options, my head nearly exploded.  the technology, she is good.

earlier this week, i got to check out sex and the city 2 with my friend, the fabulously talented westmama.  while we were both sorely disappointed in the fashion, the interior design was pretty much awesome.  and really, let’s face it, even a so-so two hours with carrie and the gang still makes for an excellent afternoon.

if you’re feeling extra loyal to the fab foursome, i have to admit that there are some fun merchandising options floating around.  how cute are those little foldable after-party flats?  and i have to admit, i’m sort of tempted to nab that stiletto pendant by dogeared…since i adore the heel but hate the discomfort, maybe this is a good way to declare my loyalty without sacrificing my toes.

then, yesterday, i visited the one-week-only pop-up shop for le train bleu, one of my favorite online window-shopping haunts.  let’s just say the “window” part of that sentence went, well, out the window when i stopped by.  an hour later, i emerged bleary-eyed but sated, with an unbelievably flattering new dress, and some fabulous new jewelry that i may not be cool enough to wear, but i plan to try anyway.

if you’re in portland or nearby, the shop’s open through sunday…there are loads of one-of-a-kinds and severely discounted goodies that are not to be missed.  and if you’re not local, well, you should still buy the dress online (looks like code hellooooosummer is still working for 40% off as of now).  it’s not much to look at on a mannequin, but on a person?  very, very good…and a total steal.  in fact, it’s only slightly less wonderful than this one i mentioned a few weeks back.  sadly, trying that one on was one of those times i wished for a slightly smaller chest. if you’re more proportionately endowed than i am, i can not overstate how awesome the eskell dress was when i tried it on.

and if all that wasn’t enough, now i’m headed out to hear my all-time most idolized person (we’re talking “what one person would you invite to your fantasy tea party” idolizing here), dr. maya angelou, speak tonight.  yeah, i really should have led with that one, as it’s definitely topping my list at present.

yep, good times in the land of eternal rain…seriously, isn’t it summer yet?
