editor’s picks: 2015 nordstrom anniversary sale

Psst…Looking for details on the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale? I’ve got the scoop right here. |

Editor’s Note: If you’re new to this scene, the Anniversary Sale is Nordstrom’s biggest sale of the year. They cut deals with nearly every designer they stock to get an early shipment of Fall 2015 merchandise 6 weeks before any other retailer. Then, they mark the whole lot down 33-40%! That means you can score everything you need for fall without waiting for those October markdowns, but prices go back up on August 3, and the good stuff sells out fast. So, if you see something you love, nab it early! Remember, Nordstrom has the best return policy in the biz, and items sell out fast during the Sale. My Sale mantra: Buy now, edit later!

beauty buzz: current faves

I’ve been so happy with my skincare drill these days, I thought it was high time I shared. Those Mario Badescu goods are amazing – not a hint of my formerly desert-dry skin, and such a great price point. The 3Lab Aqua BB is actual magic, as is the Darphin eye cream. And the MD Solar Science is the only retinol that doesn’t irritate my skin.
Shop them all right here (yes, there’s a quick email signup involved, but then you won’t forget what you were excited to try…plus, you can always click “unsubscribe” right away).

beauty buzz: the 5-minute solution for easy summer beauty

easy-summer-beauty-routine

I think we can all agree that the phrase “lazy summer” applies with particular accuracy to our beauty routines. Flat irons sound considerably less appealing than “beach hair” sprays (or just cramming your unwashed locks into a messy bun). And makeup? I don’t know about you, but when it’s 90 degrees outside, the last thing on my mind is bothering with a full face of foundation that will inevitably melt and pool into the “fine lines” on my forehead within seconds of leaving my house. beauty buzz: all about beauty oils

When the rabid trend for beauty oils began, I donned my usual skeptical expression (one eyebrow cocked in a way that I like to think makes me look both shrewd and brilliant, but will probably just result in uneven wrinkles when I’m 40 80). Oil? On my face? On purpose? But little by little, I’ve weakened, and they’ve started creeping into my daily beauty routine. Finally, I looked around my bathroom yesterday and realized I’ve become an oil addict.

Why, you ask? The beauty of beauty oils is a multi-faceted thing. They feel luxurious to use, like I’m Elizabeth Taylor or something. On a practical note, they seem more soothing to my skin, more natural than applying creams and gels and tonics. It feels closer to what my skin would actually want, if it could ask. Also, they’re a relative bargain – a very little bit of oil goes a very long way.

With that, a few of the oils I can’t get enough of these days: Read on

september essentials

It’s September, friends! Finally! It’s my favorite month of the year – and not just because my birthday’s fast approaching (though that definitely helps). September always feels like a season of possibility. Leaves change, the air takes on that delicious chill, kids are locked back in their cells for another nine months, and the world feels like it makes a bit more sense.

So, I’m choosing to ignore the fact that the weather report claims it’ll be 90 degrees this weekend where I am. Instead, I’m looking ahead. To short boots, cozy fires, and soup season. Grab your first pumpkin spice latte of the season and do a little something to help your brain transition to fall. Need a few suggestions? Read on

beauty buzz: lazy day routine

You know those times in life when things are so harried that you just don’t have a single ounce of energy left in your bones to deal with a beauty routine? I’m in one of those phases, friends. And yet, there’s no denying my looks need some energy spent on them. I’m past the point in my life when I can just rush out of the door, fresh-faced and damp hair, and trust that all will be well. (Boy, you don’t realize how much you’ll miss those days until they’re gone. College self, you really should have appreciated that more.)

On the days that a full-blown foundation/cheeks/liner/lips/blowdry/flat iron routine seems, well, roughly on par with scaling Kilimanjaro, I’ve found myself relying on a few grab-and-go goodies that are making my life infinitely easier.
