beauty buzz: easy summer hair
Friends, sorry I’ve been MIA this week…I’m a bit under the weather. But I’m emerging from my fog because I can’t go another day without telling you about these new Kérastase goodies I’ve been trying. I’ve been trying to hold out until I tested a few other brands to mix things up a bit. But honestly, these deserve their own show – they’re that good. Read on
cheap thrills: thredup’s got a brand new bag
{Editor’s Note: The following is sponsored by my friends at thredUP, but opinions and picks are all mine. As always, thanks for supporting these wonderful businesses that keep the lights on at SMC!}
If there’s anything I love more than a new bag, it’s a bargain. So when I heard that thredUP was adding handbags to their fantastic online consignment offerings, I may have gotten a little giddy. Right on trend, nearly-new bags, 100% authentic (I checked – they’ve hired experts to make sure), marked down as low as 1/4 of their original retail price? Where do I sign?
A few of the (too) many styles I’m coveting this morning: thredup handbags Read on
pleased to meet: laidback summer style from lou & grey
Friends, it is hot as a bucket of beans in San Francisco this week. How are things where you are? To say I don’t do well in warmer climes would be, well, the world’s most hilarious understatement.
The biggest problem with the mercury hitting 90, of course, is that it’s too hot to drink my summer wardrobe is nowhere near ready. Remember, I’m still doing my “how to dress like a French girl” experiment! And blazers + scorching temperatures are not exactly a match made in heaven.
So, when I got a note from LOFT introducing me to their newest creation, Lou & Grey, I was, shall we say, ready for love. Really, does it get more summer-perfect than this? Read on
gift guide: mother’s day gifts from hatch jewelry
{This Mother’s Day gift guide is sponsored by Hatch Jewelry, but I’m happy to say that all opinions and blatant coveting of their goods are entirely mine. Thanks for supporting the businesses that support SMC!}
Left to right, from top: Cloud Necklace | Marquise Bracelet | Teardrop Studs | Mini Media Bracelet | Hammered Bead Necklace | Branch Ring | Silver Loop Necklace | Pyramid Earrings | Bindery Bracelet
Mother’s Day is fast approaching, friends…are you ready? Neither am I. But in recent years, it’s gotten easier to find something to show my mom how appreciated she is – I’ve finally figured out that jewelry is almost always the answer. It’s sentimental, feels like a splurge (but doesn’t have to be), and you can borrow it back any time you want!
But please, I beg you, don’t think for a second that this means running to Ye Olde Megamart and picking up the first plastic bauble that catches your eye. If you’re going for sentiment, you’ll wow Mom infinitely more with a handcrafted piece that has a story. That’s where Hatch Jewelry comes in. Read on
cheap thrills: spring standouts at banana republic & gap
Oh, friends…it’s been probably years since my last visit to Banana Republic. And that’s not to say I’ve turned into a snoot (though it may be true)…it’s just that once you’re no longer trudging to an office every day, your need for generic workplace separates diminishes considerably. And that, of course, is what we know and love Banana for, right?
But yesterday, I had occasion to pop inside, and there were actually a few goodies mixed in with the usual suspects. Plus, as always, everything is 40% off today (seriously, we all know to never, ever pay full price at BR, right?) – this week’s code is BRRAIN (through 4.29). My favorites? Read on
how to dress like a french girl
Emmanuelle Alt & team, image via (for more Parisian style goodness, see my Pinterest page)
Hi, friends! I’m back, I’m caffeinated, and I’m finally ready to start telling you all about that wonderful trip I took. Before I get into the official travel reviews, tips and all of that goodness, something’s been nagging at me. Something I noticed literally nonstop on this trip, time and time again. I’d sit in a café, sometimes for hours, just people-watching. Or, more specifically, scoping out all of those gorgeous Parisian girls whose style we’re always trying (and failing) to emulate over here. And by about Day 6, something clicked. I finally realized they’re all doing the exact same thing. The clouds parted, and the secret formula for how to dress like a French girl was finally bestowed upon me by the fashion gods. Are you ready? Read on
quick pick: anya hindmarch escapist collection
Every now and then, you just need something that makes you smile. And I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure I’d giggle to myself whenever I pulled one of these cheeky escape artists out of my handbag.
Escapist Collection, Anya Hindmarch
Truly, how could you be in a bad mood looking at these? The collection is inspired by Saul Steinberg, but I can’t help thinking of Shel Silverstein too. Can’t you just imagine this little fellow trying to make off with your iPad?
