Hi! If Google brought you here, and you’re more interested in my
2014 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks, you’ll find them right over here!
As promised, I’m back this morning with my top picks from this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale**. So, grab your credit card and settle in…let’s shop!
First, that elusive limited-supply designer selection I mentioned yesterday. Lots of great basics from Vince, which are always good, but my favorites are below, and you’ll want to nab them fast – historically, these sell out during the first day or two of pre-sale.
Rag & Bone “Harrow” booties, $299 / Burberry “Berryfield” flat, $229 / Vince leather-trim blanket sweater, $319 / Burberry trench, $995
This year’s sale is heavy on leather, so if you’re in the market for a leather moto, skirt or something more adventurous, now’s the time to grab it. I’ve picked a few leather pieces I love, but the sky’s the limit.
Calvin Klein leather moto jacket, $249 / Halogen leather skirt, $149 / Cole Haan lamb scuba jacket, $429
And, because I have a serious outerwear addiction problem, a few more jackets I’m excited to see in person:
Rag & Bone biker jacket, $269 / Trina Turk officer’s coat, $359 / Michael Kors field jacket, $109
It’s always hard to wade through the apparel selections online, so I’ll update you later if I find more worth loving. For now, these are the pieces I’m most looking forward to trying on:
Halogen color-blocked pants, $49 / DVF Jeanne wrap dress, $239 / Halogen jacquard pants, $49
Boots are always huge in the Anniversary Sale, of course, and this year is no exception. I was particularly impressed with the options from Frye this year (which also come in wide calf versions!).
Joe’s “Saki” booties, $125 / Frye “Wyatt” boot, $218 / Frye “Melissa” harness boot, $265
I’m rarely bowled over by the bags in the sale (I have that ongoing phobia of seeing everyone and their sister carrying the same bag I am), but there are a few fun picks. I loved the color-blocked styles from Pour La Victoire and Vince Camuto, and that Dooney & Bourke satchel is a great classic to add to your collection.
Pour La Victoire “Butler” tote, $329 / Vince Camuto “Max” satchel, $198 / Dooney & Bourke “Clayton” satchel, $289 / Coach “Rambler” crossbody, $232 (not pictured)
And, a few accessories to brighten up your new looks:
Elizabeth & James “Fillmore” sunglasses, $129 / Michael Kors “Lady Nini” watch, $129 / Nadri station necklace, $99 / Michael Kors equestrian belt, $49
I’ll also be picking up my usual lingerie staples. Definitely time for another Natori “Feathers” bra, one of my favorite discoveries from last year’s sale. (When I asked my SA what her favorite bra was in the sale, she told me that every woman on staff had multiples of this one. Sold.) And I’ll be stocking up on Hanky Panky thongs and DKNY hipster briefs as well – I’m a creature of habit in these matters.
The pieces I’d steer clear of? I love that red tweed Hinge jacket, and it’s a steal, but I’m guessing it’ll be everywhere this fall. Ditto for those (albeit gorgeous) Dolce Vita booties with the snakeskin heel, and the Rebecca Minkoff leopard print satchel. I just know I’ll be sick to death of seeing them on the street by September.
So, that’s my list! And yes, in case you’re wondering…this is basically the exact list I sent to my SA when she asked what I’d like her to pull for me. I’m sort of amazed she didn’t run for the hills.
Tell me – did you find anything you can’t live without? What are you ordering? I expect a full report in the comments!

** What in the world is this Anniversary Sale I keep going on about? Every July, Nordstrom strikes deals with dozens of designers to pre-release a few special pieces from their fall collections (occasionally exclusives), and marks them down by 40%. Prices do go back up (though they then predictably drop back down a few weeks later), and things do sell out. Today is the first day of pre-sale, which you can participate in if you have a Nordstrom card. If not, hold out until 7/19, when the fun officially begins.

Wide calf Fryes! I might be able to wear boots over jeans FINALLY!
A – knew you’d like that!
I have to admit, I’m slightly underwhelmed by the clothing selection this year, but the shoes are really the best part of the sale anyway. And maybe I’m just pickier this year than usual and getting more disciplined about buying things that actually flatter and fit my style, instead of being seduced by the latest trends 😉
I didn’t spot anything else I had to have, but I am picking up the Harrow booties–they’ve been on my wishlist for a year now, and that is probably the best price you can get a black pair at. Also have been on the hunt for a leather tote / satchel for work, and will check out the Dooney & Burke.
Jen, I agree…from the catalog offerings, the apparel wasn’t great. But now that the options are posted online, there are a lot of great basic staple pieces – love that DVF wrap dress, which can be hard to find on sale, and the Vince silk blouses, which are always good to stock up on!
So glad you nabbed those Harrow booties – they’re my favorite Rag & Bone boot. Let me know if you end up with the Dooney tote. I was surprised at how much I liked the styling on that one!
After going a bit crazy last year, I tried to control it a bit this year (although there are still some shoes I may go back and take a separate look at!) I limited myself to some work stapes the Pleione Mixed Media Roll Sleeve Top and Eliza J Faux Leather Trim Ponte Shift Dress.
I’m not a card member so I know I can’t shop the early access, but I was hoping to at least start browsing. No such luck. 🙁 I did get the mailer today, so between your awesome preview and that, my appetite is whetted!
(OK, I figured out how to browse the expanded catalogue online at least.)
Jamie, I’m super impressed…I always, always overbuy (and then up returning half of my purchases). Your strategy sounds smarter.
Kendra, isn’t that the most annoying thing? Seriously, think about getting their debit card…it’s worth it just for this (well, and the $100 in free alterations). Or just make friends with a cardholder… 😉
Love all of your picks! It looks like the Rag Bone Harrow boots are already sold out? Anyone know if its possible to get them shipped from a store? Thanks!
Nicole, you can definitely have a store ship them if they can find them for you. Put in a call to your local store and ask them to do a store search. If they’re out there, your SA should be able to find them and have them shipped. Good luck!

Just purchased the Dooney & Bourke Clayton Satchel in black….can’t wait till it arrives. Hope it’s not too heavy, saw some reviewers discussing that. Such a classic look, it should last forever!
Lisa, I think you’ll love it. It’s a little on the heavy side, but not unmanageable. And really, any bag that size that’s made of good leather won’t be terribly light. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it when it arrives…keep me posted!
