sweet steals: 20% off sandals at shopbop

picture-28picture-26picture-25

it must really be spring!  today through wednesday, take 20% off all sandals at shopbop with code SANDALS20.  it’s a tough call, but these are the styles making the cut for my shopping cart:

matt bernson’s baracuda sandal is looking to be the hot gladiator this summer – i’ve seen it absolutely everywhere, so this is a great chance to score the style for a steal!  i personally think i prefer the styling on this version from frye…and i sort of love not following the pack.

speaking of frye, i admit they’re not the most avant-garde style out there, but don’t these frye softie sandals just look so comfortable?

after my j.crew metallic flipflops disintegrated in hawaii earlier this year, i’m desperate for a replacement.  this dkny seaford sandal is simple, stylish, and less than $50 with the magic code.  sold!

picture-311picture-331picture-34

it’s no shock that loeffler randall can do no wrong in my eyes.  this ruffled raspberry sandal is the perfect flat version of a style i was after last fall…but infinitely more versatile.

and i realize these sweet navy suede heels from coclico are “sandals” only in the most technical of terms, but they’re still 20% off…and they’re positively lovely!

last, and probably on the “pure eye candy” shelf (when did sandals get so insanely expensive?!) – i’m crushing pretty hard on these alexandra neel twiggy wedges.  i normally don’t go in for the wedge at all, but i love how well these balance the strappy styling.  they’re part punk, part retro, and thoroughly chic.  whether you can brave a 3.75-inch heel and a $770 pricetag is entirely a personal question.

so, share!  even if you’re not actually shopping these days, let’s have some virtual window-shopping fun – which are your favorite pick for summer?

bling on the cheap

nothing like a jewelry sale (or two) to brighten your wednesday morning, right?  and if i threw in shoes?  don’t worry, you can thank me later.

first up, alexis bittar (known for his mod, chunky styles and his celebrity fan club) has marked just about everything on his site 50% off.  so, grab one of his signature lucite bangles, a very marni-eque graphic necklace, or something a bit more refined.  i happen to be obsessed with cameos, so this piece is at the top of my list.  sure, it’s not free…but bittar’s designs are well worth a little coin.

next up is a pretty fantastic sale going on at plaza too.  i haven’t written them up in aeons, because i had a pretty heinous customer service snafu there once upon a time.  but, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that things have improved (please let me know if you find this isn’t the case, and i’ll ream them on your behalf).  they’ve just marked their entire jewelry collection down 50%, and their sale shoe collection is an additional 30% off, so most are in the 75-80% discount range.  all are final sale, but there are some pretty remarkable deals to be found.  a very spicy python-embossed loeffler randall boot for $175, a fantastic purple suede wedge from kate spade for $77, and last year’s frye paige riding boots (vastly superior to this year’s buckly version), marked down to $209.

on the jewelry front, they have everyone from gerard yosca to kara ross, isharya, marcia moran…and some other alexis bittar pieces that weren’t on sale at his site (sigh, i was all excited initially because they stock chan luu…but turns out he’s excluded).  still, there are definitely some deals to be had!  grab some of spring’s hot layered necklaces, a show-stopping jeweled cuff or two, or these beautiful rose quartz earrings i nabbed on my vacation – they’re amazing in person, particularly if your skin is as pale as mine!

the loeffler randall fetish continues

just feeling a little loeffler love this morning, and couldn’t resist sharing.  i know, i know, the economy, blah…but we can still look at pretty things, surely?

that fantastic taupe edith pump is the perfect antidote to your winter blues, and will be a fab addition to your spring/summer wardrobe.  they’d be absolutely stunning now with a colored tight, but when spring hits, this is such a gorgeous way to add a little ladylike to your look.  that heel is mighty daunting at 4.25″, but i’m thinking the 1″ platform will help.  plus, designer jessie randall does faux snakeskin better than just about anyone.  if you’re lucky enough to find your size, these are on sale at habitat for $315; otherwise, grab them at eluxury for their full $450 pricetag.

not much can make me more anxious for warm weather than hot pink satin…except, perhaps, ruffles.  this colette pump is just begging for a fab flirty dress in a contrasting print, or to update last season’s bubble skirts.  for shoes this hot, i might even be able to get on board with a shorts-pairing.  maybe.  grab them on sale for $300 at shopbop.

here’s something i never even knew i needed before now – a camel flat.  honestly, how endlessly practical can you get…and how did i not know that this was an even bigger necessity in life than the camel heel?  at least for my 5’8″ frame, flats are my footwear of choice.  the camel color is virtually guaranteed to make your legs look a mile longer (and slimmer), and the ruffles (again with the ruffles!) keep them from being too matronly.  these would be the ultimate go-to for any “i have no shoes to match this outfit!” emergency, and they’re a great way to lighten winter basics for warmer weather.  in short, this is possibly the perfect shoe…and it can be yours for $425 from bluebee.

and for those of you drooling, but unable to partake, i do have one lovely little gift.  remember those fantastic raspberry pumps i was loving this fall?  well, the red version is are now on sale for a frighteningly good $135 at shopjake.  as they say, if the shoe fits…

the annual “best of” list

every year when i get out my (completely lovely) new calendar, i love to think back through my year of retail and consider what really ended up being the best and worst purchases of the year.  the worst are harder to remember…they tend to fade into the recesses of my mind.  but the best are always there, right up front and easy to spot.  so, here’s my list of the best fashion & beauty investments i made in 2008.

loeffler randall matilde boots:  finally having these beauties in my clutches has changed my winter wear life forever.  i used to loathe the turn of seasons, because i’d be forced to either freeze in flats or resort to less dignified footwear.  but with these beautiful boots in my closet, i don’t mind a bit that the weather’s turned cold.  i scored them in this gorgeous olive color, but my first love was this amazing elephant shade (now on sale for under $500, by the way!).  both are perfect with just about anything, and so much more interesting than brown or black.

epice scarf:  i bought this as a christmas gift to myself from my dear mom back in october, and can’t tell you the degree of self-control it took to keep it in the box until the holiday arrived.  these scarves are actual works of art – i love everything about them, and am merely counting the days until i score a second.

gorjana sand coin necklace:  this necklace has hardly left my neck since it arrived – i love it so.  i wear it doubled, or layered long with a shorter necklace…the options are endless and the compliments are boundless.

benefit creaseless cream shadows:  i was always so skeptical of cream shadows, but really and truly, i haven’t touched a powder shadow since these arrived.  every color is gorgeous (though birthday suit is my personal fave), they apply flawlessly, provide a very adult degree of shimmer, and wear all day with ease.  definitely a star purchase at under $20.

barex intensive care hair mask:  i haven’t had a chance to tell you much about this italian hair care line, though i am fast learning to adore it and its 3-ounce bottles for travel.  but it’s the intensive care mask that has saved my life this year.  when i first moved to the rainy northwest, my hair objected staunchly…and voiced its objection with frizz, dryness, and countless other complaints.  this mask has soothed my hair’s temper considerably, and i am pleased to announce that my locks no longer frighten small children when i pass by.

clarins brightening day lotion:  this line has probably changed my skin more than any other this year, and i swear by it to all who will listen.  my skin borders on impossible – dry, unbelievably sensitive, and prone to hive and rash outbreaks with any change in routine.  but this brightening lotion keeps it happy and healthy, and even makes makeup-free days a possibility.  my only sorrow is that my supply has nearly run out – but this is one i’ll definitely be restocking.

so, what about you?  what were your best purchases in ’08??

buyer’s buys: basic boutique (and an exclusive discount!)

wow, that is some serious title alliteration…but i digress.  we’re test-driving a new feature here at SMC, in which we ask buyers at our favorite shops to tell us what they’re lusting after this season.  i love getting a new perspective from time to time, and there’s no better source than the people that get to see absolutely everything out there, and are then forced to narrow their picks to a very select few.

today’s “buyer’s buys” is with the lovely andrea denes of basic boutique.  basic is one of my favorite stops to check out established favorites like madison marcus and loeffler randall, as well as new faces like lorick and castle starr.  the online-only boutique has recently gotten loads of fab press, but i love being able to say i knew them when!  anyway, without further adieu, these are a few of andrea’s fave picks for fall:

Ulla Johnson Edith Blouse – This blouse is absolutely gorgeous and super lightweight so you can start wearing it now! The print is unique yet subtle, and will be the perfect compliment under a cardigan or vest this fall!

Velvet Sarill – Using a Rachel Zoeism…”I’d die”. Yep, that basically sums up this little number by Velvet. The fit, color, and need I mention price are all just dead on!

Vena Cava Casio Tank – Vena Cava is known for their unique prints, and this one doesn’t miss the mark. The cut of this tank is flirty and feminine, but the zipper front gives it just the right amount of edge. Perfect for layering under fall jackets.

Dorothy Lee Cardigan – Well, we obviously know sweaters and fall go hand in hand, but this one is actually making me look forward to cold weather! I plan to make this sweater my fall uniform, along with my skinny jeans and brown high boots.

Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag Mini – We’re no strangers to this staple bag by Rebecca Minkoff, but I’m obsessing over the neutral hued color of this season’s MAB mini!  The perfect compliment to those fall jackets and sweaters!

Loeffler Randall Ruffle Collar Jacket – If you’re looking for a statement piece to invest in this season, then you’ve found it.  This gorgeous jacket by Loeffler Randall can be dressed up OR down, the color goes with everything, and it looks amazing on.  Can we say “necessary!”?!

no big shock that we’re in love with every one of andrea’s picks.  if you are too, she’d like to help you score some of these fab digs. just use code CardioTop5 to save 20% sitewide (that includes sale items, folks!).  work those credit cards now…the code expires sunday.  and of course, let us know what you end up bringing home!

worthy splurge: loeffler randall gemma pump

at first, i was afraid it was a crush.  but every time i look at this stunning gemma pump from loeffler randall, it becomes more clear:  this is definitely love.  love the luscious raspberry color, the open toe, the swirl detail on the vamp, the lizard embossing, and the super-practical 2″ heel.  love absolutely everything…except the $450 pricetag.  money tree, where art thou??

i do, however, think this qualifies as a worthy splurge.  unlike her handbag line (tragically, i’ve had several bad experiences there), jessie randall’s shoes are built to last – and i have a closet full of them to attest.  this color will be amazing all winter with those colored tights you’re seeing everywhere, but really, can you imagine a more perfect summer party shoe?  i simply cannot…and a shoe i can wear literally 12 months out of the year is a rare enough commodity it may be worth biting the proverbial bullet.

pick it up at shopjake, the store that is singlehandedly forcing me to think about what exactly would happen if i maxed every credit card i own.  i do believe you can use code heel08 to score 10% off…every little bit helps.

cheap thrills: topshop ruffle flat

i think the loeffler randall love is pretty well undisputed here at shoppingsmycardio.  so when i spied these darling purple flats that have all of the stylish chic of a loeffler classic without the pricetag, i had to share(check out one of many loeffer randall ruffles here)

leave it to topshop to come up with a version that isn’t a copy, but definitely gives you the look for less.  they’re a fantastic pop of color for any ensemble (though also available in basic black, if you’re feeling a distinct lack of creativity).

pick them up at topshop for roughly $50, depending on the conversion rate.  use them to dress up shorts now, and for the perfect pop of color beneath jeans or black tights this fall.  at that price, grab them in both colors, and make all of your friends think you have cash to burn.
